Sounds like the extractor needs a little adjustment. I would find a local gunsmith to tune it before I would send it back to Kimber. I'm a bit puzzled by the salesman at the gun shop suggesting that it will jam during the first 300-400 rounds. This is a 1911 not a polymer pocket toy.
I agree that there should be SOME formal safety and marksmanship training required. However, if you give the die hard anti's the smallest chance they will try to make it ridiculously difficult to intentionally discourage people from getting carry permits
I felt a personal responsibility to...
We may all say that we would have done this or that in your situation, but none of us really know how we would have reacted or what we would have done. I think you handled the situation well given your circumstances that day.
I don't think you over reacted, and I think your letter is well written. ADULTS should know better than pointing guns (real are not) at anyone. This situation should be addressed. A criminal justice student should be better trained, and as an ex-Leo the instructor is failing in his teaching.
I wouldn't give up either. If you give up one, the anti gun folks will be even more encouraged to try to take away the other. Never give up you liberties!
I have a Vostro 1500 and it is wide enough that it won't fit in a lot of the cases that I looked at. I wanted a bag big enough for it and related items. At Staples I bought a Heritage model 826563 leather case for about $100. It was a little more than I wanted to spend but it has a pocket...
My wife & I have a pair of Springfield 9mm loaded models. Both have a couple of thousand rounds through them. We had to have the extractor tuned on one of them. There have been no other problems.
Her carry gun is an EMP & mine is a Kimber Ultra Aegis II. Both are very dependable.
Most...
My wife has one. It is just not dependable enough for a carry gun. Spend more money and buy something that will always go bang when you pull the trigger.
My opinion. Yours may vary.
My wife carries and EMP & I carry a Kimber Ultra Aegis II. There's not really much difference between them. The EMP is slightly thinner. Weight is about the same. The Kimber has a little better carry bevel. The EMP has ambi safety. The EMP has a 9 round magazine & the Kimber has an 8 round...
I strongly suggest using a leather pocket holster with a stiff enough side to keep something from poking into the trigger guard a firing the gun in your pocket. That can happen with an Uncle Mikes soft side pocket holster. Take my word for it that it can happen!
I voted reliable but mine failed to return to battery quite often during the first 200 rounds. I called Kahr customer service and discussed the issue. They sent me a new barrel and recoil spring & guide rod. It has been reliable since then.
I had a case of Remington UMC that frequently failed to fire in my PM9 and my wife's EMP. The primer strikes were fine. Sometimes a second strike would fire them and sometimes not. The same ammo in our full size 1911's never failed to fire.
