Wally is correct - to get proper eye relief I need to push the scope way forward and nearly 1/2 the scope is in front of the front ring. Seems unstable.
I've attached a photo with it mounted with the rings reversed.
If I swap the rings to the 'correct position', the ring in front will be...
I have a Savage Axis in 308 and am mounting a Nikon 4.5-14x40 scope on it. I have 2 piece Leupold mounts and rings from a previous Leupold scope
I recall that previous scope that had trouble zeroing the scope and it was because Bass Pro mounted the two part base backwards. I ran out of...
I have visited the Marlin owner's site.
It appears that I have an older style follower. I need to replace the follower with a newer plastic one has a dimple on the end to hold the tip of the bullet in place. It appears the bullet is slipping off the follower and lodging between the magazine...
I tried to disassemble the magazine tube to clean it, but could not get the follower out. It iwould get stuck about 2" in from the muzzle end. I spritzed a very small amount of RemOil in the tube, then ran a large patch into it several times - it did come out dirty. The RemOil will evaporate in...
I just picked up a used 1975 vintage 1894S in 44 Mag. Seems to be virtually original carbine with no mods. I have not fired it yet. I still need to clean it but it looks to be in great condition.
I loaded magazine with 10 rounds of American Eagle 240 gr JHP bullets and they all fit and...
I'm not sure of these are electro- or chemi-plated but from what I can find the plating thickness is only 30-80 microinches - not very thick.
I wonder if the cracking is due to differential stress from case expansion during firing and is only cracking the plating (when the case expands the...
Hodgdon lists the load data min/max as 23-24gr for a 240 gr bullet using H110. With such a narrow range, and that the 1894 has a slow twist of 1/38" is there any reason to test a range of various loads for this rifle/bullet combo or just go with 23.5gr and call it a day?
As I load mainly for 45 acp and that's relatively plentiful on the range, I have been tossing the nickel plates ones aside in favor of the brass ones.
But I'll soon start reloading for 44 Magnum and if they split sooner, I'll avoid them here too.
Thanks
I prefer brass for reloading but wondering if there's any difference in reloading nickel plated brass. Does plating hide any potential flaws like incipient head separation or splitting? Or does it just not do well for reloaders?
Thanks
under charge for h110
Ok, so the problem with H-110 is the potential for an under weight charge.
I use a Lee auto powder dispenser with an adjustable charge bar for loading my 45. It's rather difficult to get a charge that's too high with that, but I did find that it would occasionally dump...
@ Bigdaa - when you say "H110 doesn't like reduced load", what is the effect? I will likely not use lead bullets but jacketed or partially jacketed - 240 gr XTP right now though Hornady lists that for Pistols. Might consider the 265 gr Interlock FP - both bullets have the same BC. I'm going to...
My wife bought me a Marlin 1894 in 44 Rem Mag for my birthday - isn't she great?
I'll reload for that and have been doing some research on load data for that caliber. It seems a lot of data is for use of that round in pistols and not sure if the data applies for use in a rifle.
One thing...
Witchhunter - I do check my 223 for max case length but don't care how short they are. I've had a few that are below 1.740 but only a handful out of about 8000 or so processes cases. I trim to about 1.755. I load to a OAL of 2.23 with a 55 gr FMJBT bullet.
I don't check my 45 cases for length...
@bds - thanks for the case head separation check. Will do.
@hotajax - supposedly, brass fired in your own rifle can be treated differently than in other rifles, since the brass is now formed to your rifle chamber. It only needs a collet sizing and lengthens case life. Head separation check...
