    Savage 110 build

I swapped a 7mag to a 35 Whelen not too long ago and it was pretty simple. For 30-06 to 243 you shouldn't need anything other than the barrel and maybe an internal mag block. The bolt head and mag lips are already correct for the 30-06 and 308-based cartridges.

    K31 - did I miss out?

My local Gander Mountain (East TX) has a half dozen K31s in stock, so they're definitely still out there.

    Stolen Guns...

Title says it all. I walked into a restaurant (Carl's BBQ in Houston) for lunch after going to the range, and 10 minutes later someone comes in and says my truck's been broken into. If anyone sees the following rifles for sale please contact me on here or call the Harris County (TX) PD. Missing...

    444 MARLIN: ..shotgun scope..?

I use a 1.5-5x40 on mine and it works great out to 200 yds, as far as I typically shoot it.

    The inexpensive valuable knife list.

I'm surprised and pleased to hear that the Opinel is such a well-regarded knife. I picked up a No. 6 last summer in france and have been real pleased with it. They were pretty common over there, picked mine out of a display case on a street corner in Bayeux for 14euro. I'd have to throw in a...

Weak/flimsy scope mounts can cause a scope to fail...

Ironically enough, I'm testing out a set of the $10 walmart Weaver quad-locks, and I like 'em a lot! They are holding zero better than my last set of Leupold turn-ins, at least. I've found that even the tiniest amount of movement between the rings and base affects accuracy enough to be...

Leupold® BX-1 Yosemite Binoculars for hunting and observing?

The 6X30 Yosemite bins are awesome for the price.

Want to Hunt NASTY, GNARLY and MEAN HOGS in Texas, Houston Area.. Any Advice?

A couple of the less hunted WMAs in the DCNF, Angelina NF area seem to have hogs on them pretty consistently. Hunting access to texas WMAs requires a $48 Type II public land permit though.

    Favorite Rifle...and WHY?

^^And that's what a favorite rifle is all about, really. Here's mine- A pre-safety Marlin 444S. In this pic it has the original 1.75-5X40 scope, it's currently fitted with a Weaver K1.5

What have YOU used for hogs?

To drag this slightly back on topic :p, I usually use a Marlin in 444 Marlin topped with a 1.5x Weaver scope. Have also bagged a couple with an SKS. I've heard estimates of 1.5 to 3 million in the state, I suspect it's closer to the latter.

    Elk + a little surprise

Fake. You see the coolest stuff on "shopped" game cams though.

Have you never hunted, but want to zap some feral pigs?

The first thing I'd suggest is reading this thread. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=449721 Otherwise, yes I've walked up on them before, but it's unlikely as they are pretty wary around here. It's much more effective to bait them with corn, trap 'em, or set up along a hog trail and...

Thinking about getting a No. 5 Jungle Carbine. Any tips?

There are a lot of fakes floating around(converted from No4 MK1 rifles), do some research before buying so you can tell them from the deal deal.

Not again.......! Feral Hog Control in East Texas

Wow Flint, I see you've kept up the effort in the year or so I've been off the forums. I ran across this thread while doing some research for a planned hog hunt over new years. The sheer amount of information in this thread is amazing.

    Single Stack 9mms

"Tactical blunder" for a fullsized handgun, perhaps (though I'm not convinced), but in the really compact concealed carry pistol segment 9mm single stack is a real hot item. See the Ruger LC9 as an example. EDIT: does that S&W have a euro mag release? Didn't know they ever used that style.
