Has anyone seen a Tikka Battue in person? It'd fit the bill, but i have no idea what you'd have to do to find one. Ordering site unseen can be scary.
I think I would love one, but I'd really like to be able to look at it first.
Something to think about anyway.
Looks like I'm going to send it to Ruger. Just need to give them a call to set it up I guess.
If it was in a fire and the grip frame is aluminum, will it likely need replaced? When did they start using aluminium grip frames, or what is the best way to tell if its aluminum? It feels different...
The springs do still work. Everything looks to be in order with it. We *safely* test fired it, and it fired properly, and was quite accurate. One thing I did NOT think about, was that we only fired one cylinder. It's possible one of the others is weakened. I definitely don't consider it 100%...
Some great looking pieces on Turnbull's website. So I'd have to do the CCH AND the blueing? From the looks of it, most of the revolvers on there have a CCH frame and a cylinder and barrel that have been blued.
Sadly, deep pockets are not something I'm blessed with at the moment :)
I've acquired a Ruger New Model Blackhawk in 30 carbine. As you can see, it needs some work. My original thoughts were to give it an Aluma-Hyde II treatment, but after doing some reading, it doesn't seem like that's a great option for revolvers. The tolerances are too tight for my unskilled...
I don't think I have ever seen a bang-flop from a heart/lung shot. They almost always seem to run a lot further than I think they would.
One downside of a heart shot is that you destroy some good meat. Venison heart is pretty tasty.
I tend to aim a little lower than halfway up. Maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of the way up? I've seen deer get shot in the upper half of their body and barely bleed, and not die - at least not in any reasonable amount of time. I try to stay away from that area as best I can.
I've taken a couple of neck...
.44 gives you plenty out to 100 yards, which is probably far enough.
No one mentioned capacity. Not sure about the Rossi's, but I can put 11 in the tube of my Marlin .44. I can't even fit half of that in a 30-30.
I'd probably choose the .44.
There's also a loading in 44 mag, but only 180 grain. I'm tempted to ask about the new 30 carbine loading(110 gr @ 2000fps) as well, but that's probably a bad idea.
I realize deer don't wear heavy jackets :)
However, their internals aren't the same everywhere. I'm not good enough to be able to...
I know the Hornady XTPs are popular rounds for hunting. Do you think there'd be any advantage to the newer Critical Defense loads for hunting? I realize they're a bit on the lighter side, but would the construction help with more uniform expansion and better penetration on something like...
How about this...
Has anyone purchased a blued Impact? How is the quality of the blueing? I realize it's a 'budget' firearm, but i'm curious if T/C has done a nice job with the blueing. I read some reviews that have said they did a fine job, but am curious about what actual owners think.
Thanks for the links. Any feedback on any of those sites (I haven't ordered from any of them)?
I do prefer to go through Cabela's, just because i have a giftcard for there. But, if I decide to go with a weathershield model I might have to get it elsewhere. Or settle for the camo stock.
I'm looking at picking up a T/C Impact. My first choice would be the black stock w/weathershield, but I can't seem to find that model anywhere.
Cabela's currently carries a black/blue model for $250 and a camo stock/weathershield model for $300. I've never really been a fan of camo stocks -...
