black ring inside the chamber of my rifle

The gunsmith I know also offered to set it back and rechamber it so that is an option, as for the black ring I don't care that its there other than that's what he is saying is the cause for my cases sticking. I do use that belt sizing die from Innovative Technologies. As for load data I'v...

black ring inside the chamber of my rifle

It is a 7mm rem mag and the black ring is about halfway between the back of the case and the shoulder. I haven't tried the sand paper but the gunsmith I took it to used a brass brush on a drill already which made no difference, also I think that the chamber has been polished since the rest...

black ring inside the chamber of my rifle

I've got a black ring inside the chamber of my rifle it seems to have no texture as I run a plastic pick over it. But that is what a gunsmith I know is telling me is the cause of my shells sticking after firing, he is also saying it is from the reamer that was used when that barrel was made...

8-32 scope base screws on reminton 700

Thank you for sharing your experience I will most likely be trying this in the future, also I was thinking of using a 8-32/8-36 but now seeing how available the taps and socket head cap screws are at brownells I'll be using 8-40. Thanks again for your sullotion to this job.

8-32 scope base screws on reminton 700

Sorry to confuse you my rifle threads are not failing I only wish to do this because the base I'm looking into has the option to have holes for the #8 socket head cap screw, and I love learning new gun smithing techniques. Also if I were to re tap to 8-32/8-36, I know 8-40 is the gun thread...

8-32 scope base screws on reminton 700

Hi rcmodel thanks for your reply, but I have to ask have you done this before like this or seen someone else do it first hand? If so then this seems like a very easy job other than tapping the tiny 8-32 in 416 stainless steel action. thanks for your input.

8-32 scope base screws on reminton 700

Is there a fixture to convert a remington 700 scope base screws to 8-32 on a drill press I have access to a few CNC mills/lathes but not enough to do the work on, so I was thinking of making a a fixture out of a solid shaft boring it out to the size of the action and drilling a few holes into...

what zoom power should I use?

Is there a zoom power should I use for each range? Currently I use a caldwell lead sled for testing new rounds and sighting in but other than that I shoot off of a bi-pod. when I use a rest I zoom all the way in for any range and off a bipod not nearly as much due to not being as steady. Of...

how do you determine seating depth

how do you determine seating depth

I was thinking of getting a chronograph but now I have to ask. Would it help me get better groups using one to bring my es values down then practicing or is it a waste of time and money getting one? Maybe I have to high expectations of my stock rifle or I could vary well be a bad shot I sure...

how do you determine seating depth

I could be very wrong but I thought the lower the fps spread the tighter group if we do our part is this wrong? Like I said I don't have a chronograph so I'm just basing this off of what I've read.

how do you determine seating depth

Hi guys thanks for the input but now I've got another question for people that develop accurate loads with a chronograph. So like I said I don't have a chronograph yet but if you either load powder charge then play with depth or vise versa do you guys notice it on your (ES or (SD). How I...

how do you determine seating depth

Hi everyone I would like to hear from an accomplished shooter someone that really knows about reloading and how to determine bullet seating depth. I know how to measure the cartridge base to Ogive. I use a hornady length gauge and a bullet comparator on a caliper to measure my chamber then seat...
