Everybody says .22 and I agree. The last thing you want a to do is have her develop a flinch from shooting a loud handgun. I learned to shoot when people were too stupid to use hearing protection and I have been fighting a flinching problem my whole life.

I like the Buckmark better, but that's just my opinion. Both are good guns. Is there a range with rentals near you? You really need to fire both and see which one "fits" you the best.

The range in the national forest is the only public one I know of.
There used to be a hunt club that had a range. It was "Shawnee Hunt Club". I don't know if they are still around or not.
Even when they do pick up a weapon from a dead bad guy, they never search the body for extra mags. I've only seen one movie where they did, I believe it was "Terminator 2".
What bothers me the most is pistols that continue to fire with the slide locked back.
