A lot of racing people I know often refer to their engine as a motor. It always sounded funny to me, but they know far more about cars and engines than I do.
As for Hoppe's there is no question. I've used it for fifty years and have never heard it pronounced as one syllable.
Two unrelated transactions back in the seventies: An Ithica 1911A1 in very good shape. $10 An 03/A3 in great shape $10. In the "old days" if people in the neighborhood knew you liked guns they tended to come your way.
This article, like the Lott study a few years ago are very useful to show to fence sitters. They will do no good against hard core anti-gun people, but the others can be moved in the right direction.
Saxon, Who put the S&W sight on your 1911? I have one that is done a little differently. It was done by Davis in Sacramento Ca. back in the late 80's.

I've been given several guns for free, but the least I have paid for one was a very nice Springfield 03A3 for $10. Even thirty years ago that was a great deal.
The most expensive that I can recall is a Colt SAA for $1000.
Back in the late seventies or early eighties a gunsmith in SoCal was tinkering w/XP-100's He made one for my wife in .243win, the recoil was not to bad, but it didn't shoot very well. She had it redone in .223. Still has it.

The ones I can think of without working too hard at it are: Mauser 71/84 and a couple of Trapdoor Springfields. Probably the Sauer and Sons driling also.
