Sorry I missed replying to you earlier, southern whitetail or boar would be the largest game I’d be intentionally hunting with what amounts to a compromise rifle, larger game like your moose would dictate something more specialized.
No doubt that a AR or AK will be more effective in an extended firefight, I am more referring to home defense capability if nothing else is available, or more easily reached.
Personally I live rural, and the most likely threat is a crackhead trying to break in, or more likely a fox or possum...
What do you prefer for a do it all lever action rifle?
This should cover hunting, pest control, defensive/offensive use within civilian context, and possibly informal plinking or target shooting.
Initially, I’d lean towards an older Marlin 336 in 30-30, however argument could also be made in...
1895 Nagant with a conversion cylinder, they used to be commonly available when the guns were first being imported, should be easy enough to track down still.
I was able to handle a few at a show over the weekend, and I didn’t notice a big difference in the weight personally.
However, the statement regarding noise levels is an excellent point, and if I had a .357 I would probably load with .38 for the sound level, since a walking around gun often may...
To answer the questions above, I am looking at the smaller framed guns, like the Ruger new Vaquero or original SAA style guns, the larger framed guns are not what I’m after.
I don’t currently reload, but have considered getting into it, if nothing else than for cheap .38 target loads.
What is...
I have been considering a center fire single action for general use, mainly due to appreciation of the classic looks, and also because I have shot them exceptionally well whenever I have had the opportunity to shoot one, used to be able to shoot nickel size groups with my Bearcat pretty easily...
I recently picked one of these up, and I'm really impressed. Retail is around $199, and I haven't found anything else in the same range that I'd trust as much as this.
It's obviously not the same level of build quality as a Meprolight or Aimpoint, but is still excellent. It also runs on a...
I can highly recommend Pitbull Tactical, I have their Bloodline holster for my G19 and it's awesome.
The way it is designed, you can buy the neutral cant/straight draw version, and mount the belt loops in such a way as to still make it a forward cant holster if so desired.
Their fit with...
It's my understanding that a slightly heavier spring will reduce wear and tear, as well as increase reliability with hollowpoint ammunition.
16 pound springs as standard go back to the original design, and was good for standard ball, but I'm not convinced it is the only or best choice.
If I was...
I recently picked up a used Kimber Custom 2 1911.
I'm thinking I should replace the recoil spring since I don't know the round count, and was thinking about putting a stronger than stock spring in.
Was thinking of either a 17 or 18 pound spring, instead of the current 16 pound spring.
Is there...
Great idea on the rough out for IWB holsters, I'll give that a try sometime.
Also, thanks to all for the kind comments regarding my work, I appreciate the confidence boost.
It is oil tanned, basically latigo type stuff, it is not corrosive to metal like chrome-tan, but is more resistant to sweat and moisture than raw veg-tan.
