I recently picked one of these up, and I'm really impressed. Retail is around $199, and I haven't found anything else in the same range that I'd trust as much as this.

It's obviously not the same level of build quality as a Meprolight or Aimpoint, but is still excellent. It also runs on a common AAA battery rather than some more obscure cell size. I like this because a lot of my other electronics use AAA cells, increasing the chance of me always having a spares on hand.
It features a well designed mount, witch includes a spacer for adjusting the mount height, it doesn't have any sort of quick release, but cowitnesses well so that's not really an issue.
The small details that were engineered into this sight are quite impressive too, including a quality rubber armor housing with lens caps that comes included but is removable if you don't want to use it, the lens caps which can clip together to keep them out of the way while shooting, and the adjustment caps integrate a protrusion on them that can be used to adjust the sight rather than needing a coin or screwdriver.
These features are minor, but show a level of design that I find impressive on a sight at this price range, they also serve to make the sight much more user friendly.

The control interface is excellent as well, with a quick press of one button turning the sight on instantly, it offers a wide range of brightness levels, and automatically turns off automatically after 4 hours to prevent running down the battery by accident.
It is also hard to accidentally turn off, requiring a button to be held down for 5 seconds, ensuring the sight isn't accidentally turned off by the controls being bumped.

I would highly recommend this sight based on my experience with it so far.
Vortex also offers a great no questions asked warranty as well, so if you had the bad luck to get a lemon (highly unlikely in my opinion), they will take good care of you.

I bought my wife a Vortex Sparc II for her rifle. I like it...but she hasn't shot the darn rifle yet to try it out.

The only complaint I have about hers is the lens caps, which you can leave tethered to the scope when in use, will pop off the scope after firing several rounds. No big deal, really...if I were to actually be using the rifle in the field, I'd just take the lense caps completely off anyway.

I agree...Vortex has a NICE mounting system which makes it very easy to adjust the height of the scope any way you see fit.

Hers cost the same as yours. However, at the time I was shopping around for it someone sent me a $100 Amazon gift certificate, so it was like getting it at a huge discount!

If I were inclined to use a dot sight the SPARC is the one I'd buy. Quality is very good for the price. I had one for a while, but ultimately came to the conclusion that I simply don't like dot sights.
