I thought I was set on a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x to pair with a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 CM but I see chatter on the Steiner Optics T5Xi 5-25x which retails for a couple hundred less and has a FFP.

Anyone here have experience with them? Steiner military is GTG (for double the price) but the T5Xi is pretty new.

I checked out one a few hours ago. (5-25x56) Side by side with a few different Nightforce's (ATACR/NXS/SHV). The Steiner will be my next scope purchase.

People at Sniper's Hide have been reporting a variety of issues with this series, including tracking (nearly all examples tested), off-center reticles and canted reticles. The tracking errors aren't huge (often 1-2 tenths of a mil at 10 mils up) but are considered unacceptable in this price range. It's unclear whether Steiner has found a way to fix this on new scopes or is even trying to.

Does the T5Xi have high density (HD) glass? How about lens type (achromatic versus apochromatic, pref. the latter)? Without those features, you're going to lose a lot of contrast at higher magnification use over 1200 yards or so.

You're dropping close to $2,000... May as well step up to an optic with those features and really get the full use of the glass.

The Vortex Razor HD Gen II (3-18x50) runs $2200 at OpticsPlanet. I believe they do a discount for THR members, and that optic has both high density glass and an apochromatic lens. It's available with either an MRAD or MOA reticle (and matching turrets), to suit your preference.

Taliv runs the Razor HD Gen II on a custom rifle, I'm sure he'd be willing to answer any questions you have. You can search for a thread where he did his initial review.

I have two of the vortex gen 2 and they are awesome. As was said above I would monitor snipershide before dropping the coin on a Steiner

I don't own a gen2 Vortex Razor but have read so many glowing reviews of them, and not a single negative review. They are about as heavy as a tank, but that seems to be their only drawback.

my review isn't entirely positive. the scope has many drawbacks besides weight. but all things considered, it seems to be the top of the heap at the moment, with the possible exception of tangent theta's $4500 stuff that nobody (whose opinion i trust) has used

I've handled and shot through the NF and Razor, both are excellent pieces of glass. If I had to buy one or the other on the spot I'd lean toward the Razor. The Steiner, having only handled, not used in the field, seemed well build with excellent glass, and my experience with all of my other Steiner gear has me saying it probably a damn fine scope.
