Round Butt Redhawk Grips.

I emailed Hogue today who replied and said they would consider it.
Probably I will have something custom made out of wood.
The problem is this revolver might not get enough following to interest any of the neoprene makers.

I'd be happy to be able to replace my smooth .44 grips with the checkered grips from the .45.
Any .45 owners looking for a set of smooth wood grips?
:D

Hi Bearfoot!

The smooth grips from any square butt Redhawk (not Super Redhawk) should work for you - the gun which this thread is about is a round butt. I just got my 45acp/45Colt Redhawk this week and have a Tyler T adapter on it at the moment which feels nice. Tomorrow I will shoot it with 45acp (don't have any 45Colt stuff yet) and think I will be content with this set up for the moment as I have smallish hands. In the furure I still hope to have some type of neoprene (hopefully Pachmyr) grips for cold weather and heavy 45Colt loads.

I have a feeling there are several grips out there which may not fit prefectly but might be functional. I don't have access to a hogue for a redhawk but about 35 years ago I had one of the original .44 redhawks for which I "customized" (reduced the size) a set of Pachmyrs and I am looking for them to see if they might be pressed into service. Also I emailed Pachmyr and asked if they have any plans for this revolver.

The regular Hogues will "fit", as in going on & staying on, but they won't fit correctly in that they leave a large open area at the bottom rear where the rounded gripframe curves in.

Functional, but ugly.

You may be misunderstanding - I have the round butt .44, like this:

The checkered grips from the round butt .45 should fit my .44

I didn't know they made the .44mag Redhawk in a round butt - thought it was new with the .45acp. Anyway that .44 really looks nice in the short barrel. Tonight I put a Pachmyr Gripper on my Redhawk and it is a workable fit.

My curiosity got the best of me, so I called Ruger and asked if the checkered grip panels from the .45 were available for purchase and at what price - the answer, unfortunately, was no, not at any price.
Apparently, since they're both new models, all the grips are going directly to new gun manufacturing and there are none to spare for replacements.

So.

Any of you .45 owners willing to trade your checkered grips for my smooth ones?

:D

The newer 45acp Redhawks I have seen are wearing smooth grips so I would tend to think they have stopped making the checkered ones. Based on an email I got I think Pachmyr might begin making a rubber grip for the RB Redhawk and if they do you might find some checkered ones for sale.
