i handled a new 4" redhawk today chambered in .45 colt. i was disappointed to find the grip was thicker from front to back than on the super redhawk alaskan model. does anyone know if i could put the same hogue grip that is on the alaskan onto the redhawk .45??

thanks kludge

i think i will pick up the 4" redhawk and try the grip you led me to on midway. i'll let you now how it turned out:)

I didn't like the Hogue grip on the 4" Redhawk, either. Bought a set of take-off factory wood grips from a guy over at RugerForum.com. I like them much better.

Yeah, me too. The Houge grips on the 4" Redhawk didn't fit my hand in any direction. I got lucky, and the shop where I got mine (45Colt) had a used set of the old style wood grips. I put those on with a Tyler T-Grip and they look great and work much better, at least with 'normal' loads.

I also found a pair of NOS Pachmeyer Presentation grips. They cover the backstrap and change the curve of it enough that the 'center of recoil' is moved downward about an inch. So now, when I'm shooting hot stuff (300-400gr bullets with a good dose of H110) the recoil hits closer to the palm of my hand (ala the Blackhawk Bisley), rather than whacking the web between index finger and thumb.

I've had mine almost a month now and have put about 600 rounds through it. A friend gave me a 5-gallon bucket of wheel weights. You can't beat free bullets!
