I've noticed that Ruger LCPs are now at about $200, a few months
ago they were $300 range ????
Did they release a new model?
Anybody know what happened?
Dave

I don't think it has to do with a new design change, but maybe they want to compete with the other lower end .380's like the Taurus TCP or Kel-Tec P3AT. Maybe Ruger's thinking is they're such a big company they can sell the LCP at next to no profit and make money on the LCP line with magazine sales and accessories while their other guns make the big bucks.

I thought maybe Ruger dropped the price to try to undermine Remington's release of the RM380.

Even Gallery of Guns got on the sale bandwagon late last month or early this month. Sold out all of their stock.

When the thread opened that COuntZerO linked to in post #4, I ordered one from Grabagun. My LGS listed the LCP at $334. I didn't see any reason to buy one for that price. But for $245 OTD, I couldn't resist.

I have taken it to the range twice. Shoots nice and accurate. May get a laser for low-light situations.

COunt, would that be the smallest striker-fired pistol on the market?

I picked one up for $219 otd from a local shop that's part of the NFDN. Seemed like a heck of a deal.

I was wondering, because I've seen lots of private sellers trying to get rid of these, plus the reduced prices from retail shops. I'm tempted to get one.

The Kahr P380 has a smaller footprint that the LCP, but I personally don't like the feel of it, the slide stop gouges the inside of my shooting thumb. It can be tapered, rounded and smoothed out with a Dremel - there is an example on KahrTalk of someone who did it.

I personally think the Taurus TCP is giving the Ruger LCP a lot of competition. Most of the folks that I've heard from who own the TCP say its one gun where Taurus got it right. I've seen the TCP for as low as $169.99 At that price, Taurus is getting a lot of those TCPs out there into the hands of shooters who are having mostly good experiences with them.

I got one at the gun show just before Christmas for $229 for my son. I jumped on that price as the other dealers at the show had it around the $279 range. Then saw the Rural King sale paper had them at $199. Thinking about another one for me for when the .38 is too big to carry. Gun is narrower and lighter than my .25 acp, and just a tad longer.

A lot of weapons seem to be enjoying something of a deflationary period right now. The Walther PPS, that for years had been running about $550, can currently be found all over (on-line and even LGS's), in the $350+ range (though this may also be attributed to Walther being about to release of newer version, but still, that's a BIG drop). It's also been suggested that they've been losing sales to the cheaper single-stacks like the Shield, XDS, Ruger's,etc. so they're kinda forced to get more competetive.

I don't think too many people really buy extra magazines or accessories for a gun.

I think the crux of it is the actual manufacturing cost of polymer framed guns - particularly one so small - is very low. I've heard it said once that the actual cost to make a Glock is around $75.

Given the volume they make I'd wager Ruger's factories are just as efficient, and there's much less raw material in an LCP than most Glocks. The R&D has long been paid for and it doesn't need much advertising at this point.

They very well could have just priced it down to make sure they don't lose sales to the cheaper models and still have enough room for profit. Heck even if their margins are slim if they sell enough of them they'll make it up.

night and day

pay close attention when buying one as the new generation has takin care of most of the complaints of the first gen I have both the 2nd gen is much improved not to say the 1st gen cant be brought up to speed with a little work

Picked up a Cerakoted Flat Dark Earth (Sage) LCP the week before Christmas at my LGS ... $239.00 ... same gun the week before Thanksgiving was $349 ... I jumped on it ...

I bought the same one from Kentucky Gun on Cyber Monday for $205.35. Unfortunately by the time I paid the credit card up-charge ($6.16), insurance ($3.75), FFL transfer ($26.25), and background check ($10), I was up to $251.51. Still a great price on a gun I had been looking to buy several months before. Glad I waited.

I like my Rugers but Taurus already gave me what I wanted in a subcompact .380. Better trigger and no mag disconnect for ~$100 less when purchased. Slide lock isn't necessary for me in this platform. There was a $200 nib LCP at the gun store last year and although I recognized it as an exceptional deal at the time I'd probably get the TCP again if I needed another.

My LCP doesn't appear to have a magazine disconnect. I haven't tried shooting it without the magazine, but the hammer does fall when dry firing without a mag.

No? My mistake. I thought they had a mag disconnect. Does the Ruger SR series still have them?

Oohh... might be time for me to (finally) buy an LCP.

I knew I was waiting for some reason! The force is strong with this one! :D

I can't see where anyone said the CW380 is smaller than the Ruger LCP, but here are the specs from the websites. I found Kahr's specs to be off on my CM9, its longer than their website says.

Ruger LCP
Caliber: 380 Auto
Barrel: 2.75 in
Length: 5.16 in
Height: 3.60 in
Slide Width: .82 in
Weight: 9.6 oz
Capacity: 6+1 Rounds

Kahr CW380
Caliber: 380 Auto
Barrel: 2.58 in
Length: 4.96 in
Height: 3.90 in
Slide Width: .75 in
Weight: 10.2 oz
Capacity: 6+1 Rounds

Kahr P380
Caliber: 380 Auto
Barrel: 2.53 in
Length: 4.9 in
Height: 3.90 in
Slide Width: .75 in
Weight: 9.97 oz
Capacity: 6+1 Rounds

Is the P380 smaller than the LCP or is it larger than the Ruger also?
