Every revolver should be available with this barrel length

5" is the length most often missing. 4" guns are great, but could benefit from a tad more velocity and sight radius. 6" are nice range toys, but getting a bit long for general duty as a holster carried gun. 5" is perfect.
Strikes me as odd that the most common barrel length for full size autoloaders is so scarce on wheelguns, too. Try to think of a full size auto that doesn't have a barrel between 4.5"-5.25"......

Thanks for all of the responses so far. I started it in mild frustration that the revolver I like isn't offered close to my preferred barrel length and I was curious what others had thought. It seems like manufacturers are concentrated on snubbies or ultra long. I was hoping many folks would speak up for more 4-5 inch range lengths, which I think there were. Maybe the market will improve there someday.
One thing I would have done differently with the poll was to limit it to "non pocket carry" roles. I also should have mentioned that you could pick multiple lengths in the poll. Anyways, still fun to read all of the posts.

However, that is not consistent with the poll question referring to EVERY REVOLVER. Some models like the snubbies have a frame small enough to make 4-5" versions look pretty odd and carry rather peculiar purposes.
I have two 5" barrel revolvers, a GP100 in 357 and an S&W 629 Classic in 44 Mag, both of which have a special balance to them.
A big bore magnum in a short barrel is an acquired taste, I would say.

I do like a 3" barrel. Carries like a 2" and shoots like a 4".
Now that would change quite a bit if we are talking about a hunting gun. I would want a 6"+ barrel.

Yes, hence what I said about wishing that I limited the poll to non-pocket carry.
I have 3" (M64), 4", 5", 6", 6.5" and 7.5". For me, the 3" option is too short for the 357mag and 44mag calibers, 4" seems to dial in both magnums and 4" would be the barrel length I'd want should I ever buy a M57 in 41mag.
I like the scandium N-frame M327 TRR8 w/5" barrel, 8 shot; but the 4" M29 Mountain and 7 shot 686P receive a lot of carry time as they are more comfortable and they weigh about the same. With handloads, the 4" is capable of high velocities combined with relatively fast double action split times.

My 3" model 36 is a great little carry pistol Conceals as well as its shorter brother. Little more power and full length ejector for those empties.

IMHO, a quality revolver should be available in a variety of barrel lengths from snubby to 8''.

I'm not normally a revolver type, but i voted 4". I have owned exactly one revolver that I shot well. It was a .44-40 single action with bird head grips and a 4" barrel. Most other revolvers don't seem to sit in my hands well.
i am hoping ruger puts real adj sights on a 3" 357 sp101, otherwise i may get the weaker but more costly smith. want to carry with 357 but shoot mostly 38's. smith is a bit lighter but concerned with its durability. been looking at an alpha proj in 3" a little heavy but a lighter price. the usa importer is out of most all styles, can't be too bad of a gun, hopefully!

I thought about it after I voted. In my revolvers I have two 6" and one 4" with one 2"...but I voted on the 4"choice. I like the 4".38.
