I picked up a Colt Agent this week for a great deal and just had to share!

I stopped by a Gander Mountain in my area on my way home for work and it was the only new thing in their used case: A Colt Agent for $249.99!

After looking it over a while, figuring for sure there was something wrong with it for that price, I had the clerk start the paperwork.

It's one of the Colt Agents they made in the early 80's during the strike years, so it doesn't have that Colt Blue finish and the grips are just flat, uncheckered wood. It's in 85-90% condition; there are a few carry marks on the finish but the bore looks like it's never been fired.

I still can't believe a found a Colt Agent in great condition for under $300!

That's the later Agent with the shroud. An unshrouded Agent would cost more but you certainly got a bargain at the price you paod.

I had one of those Colt Agents when they first came out during Colt's labor trouble years. Should have checked it out more thoroughly but was thinking, "Hey it's a Colt, what could be wrong with it?" Unfortunately it turned out the cylinder crane assembly was off center in the frame and wouldn't make a full rotation without getting stuck against the forcing cone of the barrel. I eventually decided to trade in on a Ruger Speed Six as I figured if Colt would let this gun leave the factory that way it probably wouldn't fare much better getting it repaired under warranty.

nice
It seems like you got a screaming deal.
I hope it shoots as good as it looks. Please post a range report.

OP, You did really well.

The Colt Agent does not seem to get any respect! Ya know what I mean.

I wish I knew that before I bought one. I got it because it is a light weight six shooter and this one is pristine. Too nice to shoot or carry. And now I will have to take a loss or hold on to it for a few years to recoup my cost.

I have one of those that I carried alot and one that is NIB. Sure, the finish is rough, but they are great carry guns.

I hear you, centag, and understand where you're coming from. However, though my Cobra is every bit as nice and pristine as your Agent, it'll never be "too nice to shoot or carry." I got mine for the same reason(s) you bought yours, "because it is a light weight six shooter" but mine gets carried regularly and shot on occasion. Yes, everyday "wear and tear" won't help the resale value but I'm not a collector and I got the gun to carry concealed.
Still, I have to concede that rub marks on the little Colt do seem more evident than even wear evidenced on a fine Smith Model 12 that I also tote on occasion...;)

Thanks all! I thought the finish was aftermarket and that was why it was so cheap! With that finish and the weight, I think I'll be in a holster occasionally!
