I bought a 2" .38 Colt Agent w/factory hammer shroud back in the late 1970's. It's a beautiful gun and never fired it since I had other guns I shoot. Still have the brown box and paperwork. Now with Colt prices out of sight I still will leave it unfired. Do you all agree?.. Any thoughts on its value now!

No idea on the value but if you've left it in original condition this long I don't see any reason to take the chance of damaging the value by firing it now. Your ability to restrain yourself from firing the weapon is to be commended. I I can hardly wait to get to the range with any weapon I purchase.

Some will be outraged that you dare to keep a piece NIB......claim that all guns are made to shoot and they would never keep a safe queen......and on and on.....

I say continue to keep it NIB!! Shoot the shooters, save one NIB if you want!!

Say, where is the pic?!

I wouldn't, at least if I had other shooters. I have a S&W Pre-36 (with the shorter grips) that I bought and shot when I first got into guns. I do regret it as it's no longer pristine. I later bought a model 19 no dash and left that unfired. and feel better for it. but, i don't have any problems with people saying guns weren't meant to sit in the safe.

Colt Agent and Det. Spl

Here is a (poor) pix of the Colt Agent in .38 spl.(TOP), along with a Detective Spl. in .32 NP. Agent is unfired and DS has about 30 rounds thru it. Both are from the 70's.

After you die, some new owner will probably buy it at your estate sale for $159 bucks, take off that ugly hammer shroud, and bob the hammer!

I'd shoot it, at least a little, & enjoy it! :D

As rcmodel implied, you can't take it with you. I say use it like Colt intended. A well-cared for but used Agent isn't going to be worth that much less than an unfired one when it comes time to sell it- or auction it off as a part of your estate...

With a factory shroud and NIB it's a solid collectors item. Should bring around $600.

Don't shoot it. Sell it if you like and buy a shooter.
