I picked up a Smith 17-2 at a gun show recently that had the original grips. While it shoots like a million bucks, the grips are too small for me to hold the gun comfortably. I've decided against Hogues or Pachs and looking for suggestions. BTW, the gun will only be used at the range or plinking while camping.

I'm a big fan of Ahrend's for S&W's. They're made to order, so it's a wait, but I've found nothing fits my hand better than the Retro Combat Square Butt. Prices are pretty reasonable.

I like Nill grips because they offer walnut options that actually closes up the backstrap. I need a larger grip on my K/L/X frame guns to achieve the proper hand filling feel, and trigger reach, and I greatly prefer proper fitting wood grips to some rubber abomination.;)

You say you've decided against Hogue, but not why or which style. I'm a big fan of their wood monogrips, and have them on all my S&W's...and I've tried Altamont and Ahrend. You used to be able to pick up factory seconds for cheap from Hogue's auction site, but the site's been down for several months. They finally have some selection on their "web store", but not auction style, and prices are higher than I think I ever paid for seconds from hogueauction.com.

I'm a big fan of Ahrends, Herretts, and Hogue (the ones made out of wood), grips.

Check out "Gripseller" on EBay, she has a great selection of Ahrends grips. I highly recommend her.

I second the Tyler T- Grip suggestion.

Never found a gun I didn't like with a T-Grip on it!!!

Maybe not the most pretty option.
But they flat out fit!!
