Probably my last pistol purchase for a while and I've read a lot of good stuff about the Sig 320. I'm not too interested in changing calibers, I shoot 9mm and that's about it.

Rather, I like the idea of changing from full sized to compact....I don't need the subcompact as another carry gun, I can't see anything getting any better than my Shield (with full Apex job and night sights).

I'm talking more about the out-of-the-box trigger....it was really pretty damn good on the Sig, while the M&P I played with in the LGS clearly needed to be introduced to Mr. Apex.

The Sig also felt better in my hand, but that is a very subjective observation, albeit an important one.

Sig quality is also pretty good, but then I've never had any problems with my Smiths, even my older 39s and 59s. My poly Smiths (a SW990 and SD9VE) have behaved flawlessly and I can't say enough good stuff about the Shield.

Just wondering if anyone has any hands-on experience with the two guns and would like to comment on one versus the other.

While the Sig is more expensive ($585 without any haggling, which I can do with these guys) it comes with a total of three "frames" as in the plastic part the working "innards" fit in to (one full sized and two compact) and as I think they are going for about $50 each, the actual gun price is around $485.

I'm going to be trading a couple of guns as well....I find my 908 S&W sitting in the safe as it was replaced by my Shield (and frankly a Star UltraStar that's pretty amazing) and I'm also going to ditch a Star 28 PK which I don't shoot.

I'm interested in hearing folks' opinions.

320 has a great trigger, night sights, good ergonomics. M&p has good ergonomics and okay sights, not night sights. It's trigger is improved, but not as good as the sig. Both good guns. Own the mp, had a 320c. Didn't like the hard plastic feel of the sig grip. Thought it balanced a bit odd also, but that's just me.

The M&P has been my duty pistol for several years now, most of which time I've spent lamenting the trigger pull. Recent production models have improved the trigger substantially, but frankly, even with the Apex improvement, the M&P's trigger still is not quite as good as the SIG P-320.

When I first tested the P-320 I was not surprised a bit by the superb ergonomics as I've been a SIG fan for years and all SIGs, the old style and now the E2 grips, fit my hands as though the pistol was designed for me.

What continues to impress me is the awesomeness of the P-320 trigger. It's that good. I have not encountered any polymer-framed pistol with a trigger that comes close (no, not even the H&Ks and Walthers).

While I think the M&P is a great option for anyone looking for a striker-fired polymer-framed pistol, I'd suggest that if the P-320 points as well for you as it does for most shooters, snap one up asap. With factory night-sights, in my area, it's not significantly more expensive than the comparably equipped M&P.

Finally, I'm gonna give the edge in accuracy to the SIG, for sure (at least in my experience). I've not been as troubled by the historical accuracy of the M&P (or lack thereof) as many of the M&P haters and Glocksters hereabouts, but SIG's reputation for stellar accuracy isn't gonna suffer with the P-320.

If you are already toting a shield, go M&P. I say commit to a good design you like and stick with it. Others say that's boring, but to each his own I guess.

Much appreciate the advice for both pistols.

I agree about finding a design you like and sticking to it...but my dilemma is I like the Shield a lot, so much it's with me every day; but I also have two other Sigs, a 226 and 2022 and find both of them great guns and shoot them a ton.

So flipped a coin and it came up Sig (actually I didn't flip a coin but went back to LGS to make a decision and after fondling them both the Sig trigger won me over. )

Again, thanks for all the input....now all I gotta do is wait 'till April 19 when the store's 30 hold period is up (they got it on a trade and have to keep it on ice for a month) and I can get it out to the range.

Sorry can't comment on the M&P but I did just recently buy a Sig P320. I had a Glock G19 that was replaced by the P320 and I'm happy with the choice. The trigger is as impressive as everyone says. I also like the grip frame and it's comfortable for me. I doubt you will be disappointed with this Sig since you already have and like Sig handguns.
