I recently bought a large lot of 9MM at a government surplus auction (to resell) that looks like a mixture of WCC and WMA. I assumed it would have crimped primers but so far every single one that I've deprimed does not seem to have a crimp.

I tested well over 100 rounds so far and my swage gage seats just fine in the primer pockets, kind of loose like it's supposed to.

I have not tested by seating a new primer, I lost the small primer cup on my rockchucker. Once I find it or buy a new one I will prime a few rounds.

Am I wrong for assuming that all WMA and WCC 9mm brass had crimped primers? I did notice that the Nato cross was not on the brass that I've sorted though so far.

Can anyone here chime in and help me out? Do they not crimp the primers anymore?

Thanks,

Mark

mjohns, welcome to THR!

They are probably production over-run. Not intended for NATO use. That said, I did buy a value box of Winchester White box last year that were headstamped WCC and were crimped. You may find a mix of crimped and non-crimped in your lot.

Edit: From what I have read, the WMA is an Olin Corp. headstamp showing up around 2012.

Thanks for the reply. It looks like most of it is WCC 11 and WMA 12. I sorted a little more yesterday and came across some WCC with the red sealant and the NATO cross that had an obvious crimp.

My dilemma is that I bought this to resell and I don't really want to go through and deprime and swage it all if it doesn't need it (there is approx. 140,000 rounds)

Thanks for the info!

As with most new military brass, they use a ring style crimp that in my opinion is worse then the old staked in primers. If you don't remove it, it can cause the primers to get hung up and smashed. For the .50 they're easy to get rid of. I was given a bag of 9mm and it was doable but a pain.

Once is enough for the small stuff.

Most brass sold has different prices for "processed" vs not processed. You can sell the crimped primed brass for a tad less and save the work. Just a thought,

I have a lot of WCC brass that I never removed a crimp. It is tight but still primes kinda like a SB primer pocket.

With 9mm going for only $20/k, I wouldn't want to have to sort through all that either, 140k pcs!!! simply not worth the time. Just take several samples and get a good idea exactly what you have there and sell it as such. just list approximate percentage of crimped primer pockets.
