The PSA AR-15 runs!

Or your Dad could just send it or call and get a replacement and install it himself. Personally I think the ejection port door not closing would have been noticed before purchase but that might be because I am anal. If one showed and issue I would have asked for another.

That is true, it will take me almost a year to clock 2000 rounds out of the PSA, we'll see how it holds up.

The ejection port door on my Dad's Sport will not close unless you hammer it shut. That is a QC issue that should have never left the factory. Did they even try to close the dust cover? Obviously not. Thumb pressure is all it should take.

Like I said before, I received absolutely superior service from Ruger, vs S&W. Ruger kept me as a customer, S&W has not.

Just holding both rifles, the PSA is definitely feels more substantial, but I guess that is subjective.

Can't shoot 75 and 77 grain bullets with a 1/9 twist.

I guess my dad could pay money to get the dust cover fixed locally, but come on.....a new rifle?
In looking at some archived threads from here and AR15.com some shooters report good to excellent results using 75 gr. / 77 gr. projectiles from 1/9" barrels even as short as 16 ". Some, not all. To say they flat out won't work from a 1/9" is painting with a pretty broad brush per their reports.

It's good that your happy with the new rifle but, I agree with others, 50 rounds is too early of a determination. 2000 rounds over a year is not too terribly hard on a firearm. Once you get to the 250 mark you stated in your first post, maybe a carbine class would be able to show how good it truly is? That might be a better test of what it can/can't do. If it is just a range toy and you are happy that's all that really matters though.

The receivers are almost certainly dimensioned exactly the same between the two. The only sources of weight difference would be the carrier (extremely small) or the barrel profile. Maybe the buffer if one has an H and one doesn't.

Wow. Gonna sell the Smith to a dealer for cash huh? I'll go ahead and offer 325 which is probably gonna be a better deal than you get from a gun show dealer. Run the PSA "hard for 2000 rounds" and report back.

It is a logical fallacy to make blanked pronouncements with a single data point. I bought a 9mm PSA rifle this spring. In 300 rounds the firing pin has jammed 6-7 times, it doubled once and it ejected this:

I'm not yet ready to pronounce PSA as crap based on this one gun, but the OP is willing to call S&W inferior to PSA after 50 rounds? I think he must moonlight as a lumberjack because it seems like he has an axe to grind.

Elkins45,
Suchs a beatiful granade, I am still very leary to get a 9 mm in AR format. Whitout knowing so much about it I think it is very green om the market.

Going back to the thread let S&W fix it and let see what happend, lemons are abundant when factories are cranking at full speed. I have several PSA uppers and lowers and so far only minor details, including blem lowers.

I have about 500 rounds through my PSA AR and it's been great, but it's no better than my friend's S&W M&P Sport in any important way. Mine IS a lot heavier though, mostly due to the barrel and partially from the Magpul stock I have on it. One thing a lot better on mine is the fit between the lower and upper receivers. Mine is nice and tight, no rattles, and the S&W is a little loose. Looking at the BCG and trigger parts, I see no real difference worth noting, except my BCG is full auto, and his is semi. Accuracy is pretty much identical, both guns run great.

I put another 40 rounds through it today, now up to 80 rounds without a hitch. This is a good start!

I'm really pleased with the way it shoots.

Its really nice when the brass gets ejected into a nice little pile, 4 feet away at 3'0clock.

PSA has a new customer.

I am glad that yours is good. My PSA had two out of spec parts in the LPK, and the bolt is oversize and sticks when hot. Fortunately I was able to grind the lower parts to work and had a spare for one part. As for the bolt, PSA agreed to give me a return label but gave excuses they finally no more response or label. I remembered I rebuilt a bolt with a weak extractor and had it stashed away. It works fine. The upper seems accurate but needs more evaluation. As said in another post, quality control is poor on low priced guns. Customer service is important. No luck for me.

In my corral there are at least ten PSA builds, two S&W Sport I , Colts and others none of which have ever caused difficulties from breakdowns. I shoot a lot of ammo ( at least 1000 each month usually more) and clean the weapons after each sessison and am shooting mostly reloads that are quite labor intensive on my single stage press.
Point is cleaning and meticulous reloading certainly work for me where others i know who boast of never cleaning their AR have had a major stoppage during our shooting sessions allowing a dirt clod or vege can to escape. I have had both S&W's so hot you could read by their glow (well maybe a small exaggeration) and the semi auto carrier and 4140 barrel took the abuse without complaint.
I have expensive AR's and not so expensive ones ( ATI Omni -- plastic lower-- shoots 1 1/4" groups from a rest, when it is allowed to rest) and each and every one has proven it's reliability to me. So I say "Shoot the beans out of them and then clean em' " but whatever you do, enjoy the AR platform.

I put another 40 rounds through it today, now up to 80 rounds without a hitch. This is a good start!

Just curious, your original post indicated you fired 50 trouble free rounds and your update indicated another 40 rounds but your total is only 80? Did you have issues with the other 10 rounds? Or was it just a typo?

That was a typo, checked my empty ammo boxes and its 80 rounds fired, not 90. All without a hitch. Its off to a great start.

With what just happened in Orlando, I'm going to keep the S&W, once it gets back from S&W. I'll have two rifles that were both picked up at good prices.

Hopefully the S&W will be good to go after this repair, whatever the problem is.
