.32 caliber ... I'm in love.

In my opinion the 327 is a solution looking for a problem.

In the end this is personal opinion and there is not right or wrong decision. Have fun.

Have you shot one? Reason I ask is because this sentiment usually comes from someone that has never shot it.

One of the big advantages is it can be chambered in a smaller frame gun. For most males this isn't an issue. But for females w/ small hands it makes easier for them to handle. Then there is the fact that you are carrying an extra round than a 357.

Don't get me wrong, I see both sides if this coin. I thought it was worthless at first as well. Then I bought one and realized it has a lot of potential. It will never overtake the 38/357 in popularity. But in the right small frame package it makes a lot of sense as a SD gun.

Thank you Buck. It is very accurate, comparable to my 22lr Single Six. The long barrel and good sights are very helpful. I probably shoot it more often than all of my other 32 revolvers combined.

My second favorite 32 is my Colt 1903. :)

Yes, at first glance I guessed it would be a fantastic target gun. Unless you bought it a LONG time ago, sounds like you got a great deal. A quick search suggests you couldn't touch one today at twice the price!

My only .32 is a 6" Colt Police Positive Special in .32-20, made in 1916. It's light and pretty, but the small sights, stiff trigger and tiny grips make it a challenge to shoot to even my usual mediocre level of accuracy.

Yes I have shot it and have to agree with others assessment that the kick is not all that much friendlier than a 357mag and my ruger service six with Pac grips has a nice feel for my 68 year old stubby hands. If you want it I say go for it. Just too many what evers and not very many that's greats for me.

I just inherited a .32 S&W Long revolver and an old break top .38 S&W. i especially love the .32. Only problem is ammo availability. The ranges in my area only allow FMJ not LRN. With Fiocchi being the only manufacturer making FMJ rounds, I usually buy 10 boxes or so at a time on the internet, when available, to have on hand. They seem to come out in batches where many suppliers have them. Right now, they are pretty scarce.

I have several .32 caliber revolvers. A K-frame S&W 1905 in 32-20 , 1/2 doz break open guns from H&R and Iver Johnson in .32 S&W (sometimes called the short) , 1896 and several 1903 S&W hand ejectors, Taurus in .32 H&R , and a Colt D frame in .32 long colt .

When I bought the Taurus I ordered 10 boxes of .32 longs for plinking from Natchez . At the time they were $8.35 (per box of 50) delivered to my door. Now reloading is a near must if you want to shoot much. And finding ammo for the .32 Long Colt is a wallet thinning project.

All that said I enjoy the .32 caliber guns. My daily carry gun is the Taurus Model 731 in total titainium chambered for the .32 H&R. I exchange that for a .45 acp semi-auto if going to some places that are more personaly uncomfortable.

I can't imagine anyone not liking the .32's for filling some shooting nitch.

What I like about the .327 mag is that even if I only ever stoke it with $1.50 a shot .327 mags for walking in the woods, I can still plink with it shooting the other .32 flavors that it will chamber.

I found some .32 long at Academy for about $20. Not the cheapest, but I don't shoot a ton of revolver rounds at the range at any one time.

While the .32 isn't one you just find on the shelves at Walmart, it's almost always available at any sporting goods stores. If we have another ammo crisis, it's nice to be able to shoot about 5 different cartridges.

I will say that I have been able to find .32 ammo on the shelves easier than the .357 SIG or .44 special. However, I've only found actual .327 fed mag at one shop and it was spendy.

No matter. I just really like the .32 as a little woods walking popper. .327 is just a special treat for specific situations. Not every gun has to be the cheapest to feed or most practical for all purposes.

I have seven 32 caliber revolvers in 32 long and 32 magnum, a 32 magnum marlin leveraction a nd a Manhurin made walther pp 32acp made in 1957 and love each and everyone of them. My favorites are the two Ruger singles sixes with 5.5" barrels and adjustable sights.

These are some of the best shooting and most enjoyable firearms I have ever owned. And not just the rugers but all of them. I even started reloading for the 32acp round.

I have several 32 caliber bullet molds. Making ammo is super cheap and brass last a long time. I even have shot loads for the 32 mag. Also round ball loads for small game. Its just a fun caliber to experiment with. And 85gr hollow point loads that get a little over 1300 fps make good SD loads. long live the 32.

I would love to be able to find someone to trade my 3" SP 101 in 357 for a 4" 327 mag sp 101.

I really want to buy the .32 H&R Mag barrel set for my .38 Cobra Derringer.
I'd like to shoot short or long
32's.
It kicks pretty bad with factory 158 grained. 38 I'd like to tame it down for plinking

It would be a shame to see the .327 go. It is a nifty little
gun in a really fun to shoot caliber.

Buck - I got it for that price earlier this year. Patience and Gunbroker can be a winning combination. I have a couple of old S&W's like your Colt. Apparently 100 years ago they had low expectations regarding sights and triggers. I like 32's so much that I bought another one today. :)

I only wish the ammo was available locally. Found 1 place that had 2 boxes of LRN for $29.99 each. On line I've seen LRN for 1/2 that price. FMJ about $18.99.

Gotta agree, .32s are a blast!

My first was a little Arminius HW-3 snubbie that I inherited from my Grandpa. At first I thought it was just a little piece of German junk, but when I finally decided to take it to the range I found out that it's actually pretty accurate and REALLY fun to shoot!

I also have a NEF .32 H&R Mag that needs a little work, but is also fun to shoot and fairly accurate. I have been looking hard at the Ruger Single Seven. It just looks like it would be a great little gun to have.

It is. I've got the 7.5". I love the gun, but I've been slowly developing an itch for the 4 5/8".

I'm developing quite a serious infatuation with all things .32. At first I was second guessing myself for buying something that was chambered in such a boutique(.327 fed mag)/Antique (.32 S&W family) cartridge, but the more I have shot it, the more I love it.

I'm thinking this may be the jumping off point for me to get into reloading. I'd still buy what little .327 I shoot off the shelf, but If I could load up plinking and a touch hotter loads in some .32 S&W long wadcutters, I might shoot the caliber almost extensively. It's just so relaxing. Not as anticlimactic as a .22, but not violent or unpleasant in any way. There is just something kind of elegant and gentlemanly about the .32. I can't put my finger on it, but it's quickly becoming my favorite revolver caliber even if .38/.357 makes more "sense".

I also don't mind gravitating toward a more niche caliber with the potential political landscape regarding guns/gun violence/gun control at the moment. When things get ugly, .223, 9mm, .45apc, and even .38/.357 can be unobtanium. It also tends to bottleneck the .380 availability. .22 is of course going to go back into hiding should more talk of legislation continue.

Being able to pick up a box or two (spendy as it may be) of the overlooked little .32 at my leisure isn't a bad thing. I'd really like the see the .327 pick up in popularity. Fun blaster of a cartridge.

an elegant weapon ... for a more civilized age ... ;)

I think of the .32 as the gun used by a man who has nothing to prove; he'll hit where he's aiming, and doesn't need a cannon to reassure himself that he is indeed "armed". A .32 slug to the face is more effective than a wild .357 shot from a gun that kicks like a mule.

Fiv3r, reloading the.327 can be very rewarding as you can make reduced loads that are still powerful enough for the situation you choose. For example I find the Federal full strength ammo too snappy, and even the Hornady reduced recoil rounds are not reduced by much. So my usual SD round is an 85gr XTP hp moving around 1200fps, recoil is far less and noise is much reduced. Range fodder is usually a 83gr waddcutter moving around 1050fps, very comforable.

I too am moving toward reloading. Please share the recipe for the 85 grn Hornady XTP at 1200 fps!

I just qualified with this S&W 431PD for my CCW renewal.

It's a 6 shot 32 H&R magnum revolver. Weighs 14 oz.
