Stepped out to the back deck and fired a few mags at some steel targets. :D

Can't shoot right now as I bunged up my arm doing chores. (It was dumb so don't ask.) So I spent some time reading Ned Roberts "The Muzzle-Loading Cap Lock Rifle" and the Declaration of Independence. I would have preferred punching holes in targets but, still, a good day. Happy 4th!

Yep! Shot the Python, 442, couple 1911's, and my cousins new scar 17

I took an PSA AR and a S&W 586 out with me today, intending to shoot a little after working on a deck where I will shoot from one of these days. It was so hot and I was so exhausted afterwards, I didn't shoot a single round.

I got mine done yesterday. We have a monthly centerfire handgun competition at the range. Today was for mowing the lawn and beer! :D

Clean runs too. I did not hit any no shoots.

I had intentions of going to the range today. But got busy mounting and bore sighting in 2 red dots and 2 scopes. Brass trimming and reloaded 100 rounds of 223.

Maybe I'll have the chance tomorrow when it is hotter. ;)
Better late than never.

Happy 4th! :)

No, I had way more than enough BANG BANG BANG from the combination of fireworks and gunshots in my neighborhood this evening. Some of it was much closer (I estimate a block) and from the opposite direction of where it usually comes. I tried to distract myself by making an intellectual exercise of attempting to determine which BANGs were gunshots but I did not succeed in eliminating my nervousness. I thought they were done a little while ago but they've just now started up again.

The stupidest part is that fireworks are illegal inside L.A. city limits, except for permitted displays. I don't know why this is not enforced. As for the gunshots, they used to issue public service announcements every year (which were completely ignored), but I just went looking for them and the last one I found was 2001, http://www.lapdonline.org/june_2001/news_view/22977.

I had a good friend and his family out yesterday, which has become a tradition for us; family shoot in the AM, BBQ, then catch the fireworks on post in the evening.

1st some range improvements that went in on Sunday. I've had the bowling pins (AR500) for a few years and we used to shoot them off the railroad ties. We'd finish just about every practice session running pin competitions against each other; winner runs his set, then hits the swinger in the middle. Problem was the ties got shot up, and we spend more time trying to get the pins to stand up than it's worth. Other stands would vibrate when hit and all the pins would fall over. The solution was to weld a couple 6' stands made of 1/2" steel with legs that we drove in the ground 1.5'. We tested them by racking the pins and purposely shooting the stands......zero movement at least when hit with .45ACP 230 ball and my 357 SIG:

Friends 16 year old daughter tries her hand at pins with his 226:

We also ran some simple "family" oriented drills/ stages kind of IDPA "light":

To include a Tueller Drill (Daughter's Boyfriend):

His family had never shot at moving targets before, so besides the "Tueller Drill" we rigged the target (pulley) for lateral movement, pulled it across the range and gradually increased movement speed until they were getting the hang of it. They literally had a blast. Finished up by doing 35 yard pin runs with my 9mm carbine, which was a big hit. Then we painted steel, policed brass, grilled some brats, and called it a day.

Gee, I just noticed that Independence Day fell on July 4th this year!

Thanks for the heads-up.

No shooting because it was raining most of the day. I did manage to catch up on some work at the reloading bench. I ran out of bullets so I cast, coated, sized and checked a few hundred 460gr 50 cal bullets and loaded up 50 of em with some aa1680. Sure are some sharp looking rounds.
