DBM vs. Hinged floorplate
Hello,
So in the next year or two I am most likely going to be building a bolt action "utility rifle" that would be used for hunting, target shooting (no PRS games though, I'll get a dedicated PRS rifle if I purser that), and as a "one rifle" concept.
I've got a good idea of what I want, <12.5 pounds, < 40", .308, 18" light palma barrel, mid range powered optic (2-10ish). MCM HTG/A1-3 or a MCS T/EH5. I can give full specs if need be later.
My question for now though, boils down to whether I see any real advantage of a DBM vs. an internal magazine. Honestly if a Mausingfield, and perhaps an AIAT was able to use and internal mag, then this post wouldn't have existed. However, they only use DBMs, while the FN Winchester 70 can use both.
So basically, I am trying to figure out whether adding the extra weight, cost, handling characteristics, the possibility of loosing magazines, and bulk are worth the hassle over a regular hinged floorplate.
Obviously I am used to them on my AR and G26, but due to the intended use of this rifle and its very utilitarian role (remember no PRS games), I am having a hard time seeing the advantage of a DBM.
Like I said, if it wasn't for a DBM only Mausingfield, I wouldn't have a question because I think it the QC barrels are extremely nice compared to having to have a gunsmith change a barrel.
Anyways, I appreciate ya'll's time, have a great day.
