Good afternoon all,

I am giving very strong consideration to the Savage 10 PC in 308 but I have read and heard from multiple sources that the stock has an issue with getting very dirty very fast and will not clean up with soap and water. i like this rifle for the 1 in 10 twist, bedded Accustock, three swivel lugs and the DBM.

My 2nd choice is the Remington 700 SPS tactical AAC-SD, it also has the 1 in 10 twist but the Houge Overmold stock (Same as the SPS Tactical just a different pattern I think) can impact the barrel when using a bi-pod or resting on a sandbag (referenced from Sniper central on the 700 SPS Tactical) and no DBM , the 3rd choice is the Savage 10fp with a 1 in 10 twist, three swivel lugs but it has a standard stock and internal magazine.

I am not looking to upgrade any time soon since it will take everything I have to get the rifle, rail, and glass. So upgrading the stock would far down the road.

I know, I know another Remington/Savage thread,:barf: but I am mostly looking for someone with the 10 PC to ring in about the stock and maybe a range report? Any and all feed back on all three would be great! Thanks in advance for your help and sharing your wisdom.:D

With all respect, we're not talking about a high-grade, XXX fancy walnut stocked Kleingunther. So I don't give a rip if the stock on my tactical rifle is easy to clean with soap & water. It's like wondering how good the sound system is in a race-prepped Porsche 911. That clean-stock question would be WAYYY down on my list of critical attributes. I do, however, like the Savage 10 PC.

Ghost:

I understand what you are saying and it is low on my list but that is how tight the field is on the rifles I am looking at, is it kind of a silly thing to worry about? Yes but if I am going to drop $700+ on a firearm of any kind cleanliness and maintenance is an important factor. To follow your Porsche analogy it is more like how well will the paint hold up on my 911. So since I can't put my hands on one locally I was hoping someone like yourself who may own has some experience with one. This is about the only complaint I have found on this rifle so I am wanting to know is it in fact that bad.

Thank you for your feed back.

I'm all in for maintenance. The guts of my firearms just...sparkle :D. I wasn't trying to call you out. Sorry if it seemed that way. To me, "tactical" just means "scratched, dinged & dirty". I've even got a "well-worn" shotgun or two that SMELL like a stale, moldy old goose pit.

I've got two of them...

I actually sprayed the stocks with matte clear Amluma-Hyde II. Not so much for the dirt, but more because the factory camo paint seems to chip and flake off just from looking at it.

ETA: The one on the right (.308 10PC) shoots very, very well. So well that when I saw it, I bought the one on the left (.308 10PC-5R). I haven't had a chance to shoot the new one yet, but I'm guessing it will be the same or better than the first one. ;)
