Thought I'd share my grip choice for the 66-5 I'd posted earlier. These are sold as "Silverblack Dymondwood with factory S&W silver medallions", $60 on eBay. While I'm not normally a fan of finger groove grips, I let my wife pick these, may have to hire her full time, lol.

I also tried my hand at 'smithing by replacing the HiViz front sight which had become quite worn, wasn't nearly as hard as I'd imagined.

The more I handle this one the more I like it :)

For my usual outrageous fee I will give you some advise. :uhoh:

Before you go to work on that front sight, go to Brownells (www.brownells.com) and order a set of pin punches that have cup points.

If you use anything else on round-headed pins the punch will slip and you'll have an ugly scratch or gouge in you're new play-toy. ;)

Already did that Fuff, Brownells #5. Thanks :)

Good job on the sight. That's a tiny lil' pin to knock out.

These 3.25" 66s are getting somewhat scarce. They've always been the runt of the litter when it comes to 3" Model 66s, but nowadays they'll fetch a pretty penny just the same.

Mine actually measures in at 3 and 1/8" and not 3.25 inches. I swapped the rear sight blade for a standard one instead of the V-notch. It works better for my eyesight and I shoot better with it this way. Mine was spitting lead and it had to go back to the factory. The ran a forcing cone reamer on it and its been great ever since.

Here's mine with some Ahrends grips and a Sam Andrews McDaniel II IWB:

I love this revolver so much, it has become my #1 woods gun down here in FL. I can think of no better choice.

Bikemutt, those grips look perfect with that revolver. Curious why you are replacing the front sight? I have fiber optics on several firearms and the only knock I have is that the light pipes are somewhat fragile. Easy to replace, but a bit of a shock when you expect it to be there and it isn't. Edit: Re-reading your post, I now assume that you replaced the HiViz with a new one?

Yes Coyote3855, HiViz still sells the front sight for S&W revolvers.

The sight that came with the gun had a fair amount of holster wear, mostly on the right side. I had someone in the business of repairing guns replace the sight but that job was not done to my satisfaction. So, I did the job myself. I decided to stay with green for the color as that's how the gun was made originally.

Grips look like Altamont, good company to deal with and good quality.

Love the 66-5 too, wish one would come my way.
