Smallest grips for a K-Frame?

I have a 2.25" Smith 66 that has the large, 3 finger Uncle Mikes rubber grips on it.

These grips are comfy but with the short barrel they look kind of odd and they wouldn't lend themselves to carrying this thing well. I like the pack this gun in the woods and sometimes in the winter time as well.

Does anybody make a two finger (or close to it) grip for the K Frame? I know the grip is going to be bigger than a J Frame because there is more metal there, I'm just wondering what my options are.

Look for something like the Uncle Mike's or Craig Spegel "boot grips" or the Eagle "Secret Service" grips. All of these are cut to the contour of the backstrap and butt, thus adding no height or length to the grip, but fill in the area behind the trigger guard, with or without a single finger groove. Another alternative: the old-style S&W "splinter" wooden grips with a Tyler T-grip adapter to fill in the trigger guard.

K frame round butt grips.

I have carried K frames with round butts as concealment wepaons for 3 decades and have found that the grips which work the best for me are Pachmayrs Compac Professionals. They have the open backstrap and are very comfortable. I carried an M-65 3" rd butt for years with them and when I traded it I saved the grips and recently put them on an M-64 3" rd butt I have bobbed the hammer on and had an action job done on. If you can find the grips I think you'll enjoy them. regards, Al

I have a set of K frame Uncle Mikes Boot Grips, used on my Model 10, just didn't work out as well as I wanted. It's for a square butt, though.

Get some of the Nylon ones from Brownells, they can be filed the way you want them.

Here are some "two finger" ones on a K-snub-nosed. They are cut-down factory combats. There are similar "boot" models from Ahrends, Altamont, Spegel, hogue, Eagle, others.

They do compromise controllability with hot rounds, though. Another way to go to avoid that is use factory or aftermarket Magna grips which end at the grip frame butt, and add a Tyler adapter. It is just as concealable and allows three fingers of the strong hand on the grip frame (pinky of weak hand won't make it, though).

If you like the rubber Uncle Mike's grips you now have except for the length and want to replace them with rubber grips you can get them on the S&W site. They have K/L Round Uncle Mike Boot grips in stock for only $27.75. I like the Uncle Mike's grips better than those made by Hogue. (not that Hogue are bad, just my preference)

If you are looking to replace the rubber grips with wooden boot size grips Badger makes outstanding grips. They are priced fairly and they work. Here is the link to the page with K/L Badger boot grips in all types they make, Black, White, Rosewood and Walnut. $69.95 isn't a lot for a quality grip thees days.

I am generally not a hogue grip fan, but I do like the bantams. Three finger grip with really small size

If you can find them the pre-war k frame round butt service grips will be about as small as you can get. Some companies do make fairly good reproductions of them. Likely they will be too small to suit you.

Note my 296 below - with it's stock UM's boot grips. They are available, as said, from S&W Accessories. Not much to hold on to with significant recoil, such as my AirLite .44 Special.
