watching so many apply snakeskin drip coating, cerakote, etc., I'm hunting for something different. not polished chrome or 24k gold, not Ti nitride, something nice.

for my new Beretta PX4. I've considered parkerizing, and NP3 (NiBx). wondered if maybe a glossy blued finish would be the most different.

suggestions? it's not a carry piece, just my fun gun.

case hardened would indeed be different, not sure of the material spec on the PX4 slide and I would think material could affect color of parkerizing, and probably case harden colorization?

Ok, how about glossy WHITE ? :D Ya never see an all-white gun. I've seen numerous shades of black, grey, green, brown, tan, silver and gold, even blue and pink, but never plain ol' white.
Might be a racial component here. ;)

I love the look of a blued gun, especially on a Browning HP or 1911. That said, I'd look into what kind of base metal Beretta uses on the PX4 as stainless steel won't take bluing the way that carbon steel will. If indeed the slide and barrel are stainless, I'd say look into getting NP3 Plus or get it hard chromed with matte rounds and brushed flats. That would look really sharp in my opinion.

I'm not sure what material the slide is. I was simply saying that before sending the gun out to someone like Turnbull Restorations, for example, to be blued, it'd be worth verifying that the slide is constructed from a metal that will take bluing. If nothing else, it'll save the $100 ish dollars that it costs to ship the gun back and forth.

You have an almost infinite possibilities with hydro-dipping. Gun companies have been using it for years to add camo to their production guns. Other, non-camo, solutions available from mild to wild.

Sphinx handguns can be had in a black and white finish, and I actually think it looks pretty sharp. That white and gold PX4 is hideous though.

I think color case hardening would look really cool, but might be a bit much. I guess I'm just a lover of plain old black guns. OD green and coyote tan are basically baby puke and baby poo to me.

Look over the Cerakote site at their color tabs. I have been thinking about doing one of mine (the slide at least) in Tungsten or Sniper Gray. I think that with black controls would be subtle and look really nice.

Here is their color tab page - http://www.cerakoteguncoatings.com/finishes/

Where/how/who does a proper composite finish? If it is just painted I would not think the composite would hold up very well. I would probably keep that black and just do the slide.

Also a note on Case Coloring - the upkeep on it can be very difficult and can go south really badly if not properly cared for.

I like the "stainless-like" look of hard chrome plating. Not too flashy like bright chrome or nickel plating, incredibly tough and durable, and still looks good after many years of service. My Beretta Model 70S was done by Ron Mahovsky at Metalife.
