1.) It's gonna kick a bit.

2.) It will be accurate.

That someone shortened it is a boon. Take the opportunity to put a Limb-Saver or a Kick-Eeze on it.

Not my favorite caliber, but I've shot one in 7mm, and it was tolerable. And put 'em all under 3" at 200. I'm sure the gun can shoot better than that.

I've always wanted one in '06.

Actually, the Ruger No.1 is a true "falling block" action, an updated version of the Farquharson single-shot rifle, a wholly English design.

I have a No. 1-H chambered in .405 Winchester and it is a real beauty. As for recoil, it is, shall I say, "authoritative". Ten rounds from the bench is usually the maximum I can take in one day- I only have the factory stock pad.

Never shot a 7mm Magnum... as mentioned previously, recoil is subjective.

I think the Ruger No. 1 is one of the stoutest rifles ever made, with looks to match.

i had nine,but i sold four. a 25-06,30-30,357, and one of my 458,s. still have five a 223-B, 30-06-RSI, 300 -B win mag, 35 whelen-A and a 458-tropical. the 35 whelen is my favorite and the lightest. eastbank.

Thanks for the correction.
The action was first patented by John Farquharson, of Daldhu, Scotland in 1872. George Gibbs was a co-owner of the patent and only producer of the Gibbs-Farquharson rifle in Bristol until 1910.
So, I was wrong (again).
