What do you look for in a holster

This is my most recent acquisition, a custom designed holster from Graveyard Jack Gunleather, for a Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt:

Prior to that it was this, a modified Tom Threepersons also from Graveyard Jack, for a .44 Special Ruger:

Both holster carry well and are easily concealed under a sport coat or vest. And do allow easy re-holstering. The maker treats the leather in such a way as it holds its shape and is adequately secure without the use of thongs or straps.

Mostly fit and function.

For concealed rigs I avoid any ornamentation. Open carry rigs for most uses the ornamentation is low key. And I have a few BBQ rigs which are gaudy as all get out.

Leather is a must! No fondness at all for kydex. Want something that's form fitted specifically for the model of the gun itself and not just a mass produced generic mess. I want is hand boned and not machine/vacuum formed. No issue paying for a GOOD holster and will gladly pass over the usual store shelf hanging options - again, not into mass-produced options. Also zero desire for the fancy stamping or colorizing. Its for concealed carry, looks don't matter one bit unless you need that attention. For woods carry/hunting, nobody there cares if it's fancy and fashionable either. ;)

Stamping and carving are typically done for the benefit of the owner, not onlookers. I have concealment rigs that are stamped, carved or done in full exotic overlays and the only person I'm concerned with impressing is me. Same for field rigs.

When I go to town, I also like my belts to match my boots or dress shoes so looks absolutely do matter in that regard.

Because it is on a gun forum and in the holster section, we all get IWB. It is a common abbreviation for Inside the Waistband holsters in every state, and probably throughout the world.

None the less, good writing protocol and courtesy dictates that the first time an abbreviation or acronym is used there should be a parenthetic explanation of such usage.
