First pistol, SA/DA

I realize that the OP is focusing on metal framed as/da w/a decocker which is exactly what I prefer myself because I think I have more control and better feeling in the trigger over anything else. With that being said I realize it's a polymer frame pistol but I would like to recommend that he also try out the Sig so2022 which can be had in both 9mm & .40 flavors. you just can't go wrong with a great Sig and they are nice. for all intents and purposes it's pretty much identical to the 2:26 with the exception of a polymer frame and they're about $400 cheaper. Like most other Sig's you can get 9mm, 357 Sig & .40 S&W barrels for it and change the calibers you shoot with it in about 10 seconds.

You can get a .40 barrel to install in a 9mm Sig?

My bad on the 6906... S&W numbering does confuse the heck out of me. As for looking at the frames, I always felt that S&W put a weird finish on their stainless frames, it looks a little chalky in color. I figured they did the same with the 6906's.

Point remains, you grab a 5906 and a 6906 and you get a heck of a combo for the price. Sure, they're out of production, but they're proven and durable.

I have a S&W 915, which is the "value line" version of the 5904, totally interchangeable with the 5906 (and not to be mistaken for the 910). Aluminum frame, 4 inch barrel, not quite as finished as the 5904. I find it a great complement to my Beretta, as it's a little smaller, the controls match up, and both are reliable. Going down a size again to the 6906 wouldn't be a terrible thing.

clarification, you can get a 9mm or .357 Sig barrel for the sp2022 in .40 S&W. I'm not a 9mm fan , I never have been, but I've heard from a lot of people that you can do the same with the 9mm flavor as well.

I believe the best all around 9mm handgun is the Cz p01. Handles like a full size and carries enough ammunition for a duty/home defense gun, but is compact and lightweight enough for concealed carry. You can choose from the standard/omega/suppressor ready versions. Also you can use the sp01 mags and get 18+1 or 21+1 (with the new mags that came out with the urban grey model). There is great aftermarket support for Cz. The sig p229 would be my second choice then the beretta 92g. All would be a great guns, I just think the Cz is the best in class while coming in at a lower price. All also very similar in function, just slightly different positions of the decocker. It's really gonna come down to your personal preference with these guns and how they feel in your hand. I've heard people complain about the bore axis of the sig and grip girth of beretta. I've never heard anyone complain about the Cz ergonomics. The sp01 is just so dang on heavy it's role is limited. I like and own many different brands and types of handguns and to be honest had I known about Cz when I first got into guns most of my collection would be just that. I just got into Cz about 2 years ago and I'm a firm believer in the brand and design. Trust me when I tell you, you will not be disappointed with a p01. The only problem is going to be actually finding one.

You also don't see many used Cz p01's for sale. That's because people don't get rid of them once they own them. Sigs and berettas are always available in a used gun cases. I sold a beretta 92fs and sig p229, I will never part with my metal CZ's

I appreciate all the good info. I went back to the range yesterday, and I am leaning toward the CZs. I think that I am able to shoot them a little better (especially with follow up shots), I think due to the heavy frame and low-mounted barrel. Plus the steel constructions of the full size means that they should be pretty durable if I ever get a .40 version.

My LGS has an SP01 w/night sights I think I'll snag, and then look for a PCR D (aluminum frame, rail-less 75 compact, decocker model) in a few months.

Thanks

You definitely made a good choice there bud. As far as 40 cal Cz's go, they are the only ones I heard of some small problems occurring. Might want to look harder into that before you choose the Cz design to host the 40 caliber. I'll keep my Cz's 9mm as they excel in that chambering. Sig or beretta might be a better 40 option.

I am a CZ fan. Had many different variations over the years and still have a handful of them, all in 9mm. Tried 2 different ones in 40 over the years and did not keep them very long. Have never been a fan of the 40, seem to prefer either 9 or 45.

The SP-01 is a nice gun, but on the heavy side. I have one that does either house or range duty. Also have a SP-01 Phantom. Same gun but with a poly frame. Also have a PCR and a P-01. All great guns.
