My wife wants me to buy a Gator-type thing...

Guys I appreciate all the input.

I honestly don't need anything to do actual work with. I have big trucks and tractors for that.

This is for my wife and her 70+ year old parents. It needs to be comfortable, quiet, and civilized.

I'd love to keep chainsaws and a toolbox in the back of an old Tracker or Trooper. As it is, I currently have on-site the choice of a Chev 1500 or 6000 for that.

That's not the mission here though.

Joy rides.

Thank you.

I have a 620i gator that is 9 or 10 years old had kids & son in laws try to work it down . They couldn't hurt it . It is louder than a 2015 Polaris 900 crew I have also. I like both & they are unstoppable ,but the Polaris drives & rides much better than the gator. But if & when my gator gives out I would replace it with another gator

After going a few years without an ATV, I bought a Polaris RZR when they first introduced them about 7-8yrs ago. Except for the battery, it has been 100% reliable. As for being a "waste of money", I'd have to build a hell of a truck to do what the RZR can do right off the showroom floor. In fact, I did! It cost three times as much and gets 9mpg. I used to be a Honda man but today, a Polaris is all I'd look at. Dad bought a standard Ranger a few years ago. If you plan to do any off-roading, the RZR is the better choice. If you need mostly just a utility UTV, the Ranger is great. You simply cannot beat on an old truck or SUV the way you can an ATV/UTV.

Goes everywhere my old Honda rock buggy 400EX went but seats two and pulls trailers.....

I love my Kawasaki 4 seat mule. Back seat folds down giving you a rather large cargo area that also dumps. I've had it for 3 years now and it's been problem free.

They also make a diesel model

Yep, we also have a 4 seat Mule. It has been a very handy vehicle. Somehow we have managed to survive using it without injury or death. :D

I have used a John Deere Gator for moving cattle and they are slow and noisy. They are great for tasks like building fence or repairing fence. They are cold and wet in the winter, and if they have a windshield it is always dirty. I wouldn't buy one unless I was going to use it for work. I spent a day on a Polaris Ranger and they are good just to ride around in, but I don't think they are very tough because late in the day we were going through a patch of plum bushes and one of them punctured the radiator and that ended everything. I know people who use them for pleasure riding during good weather but for hunting every deer in the area knows you have arrived. I have a Jeep CJ7 and it is more comfortable by being warm in the winter and shade in the summer, cheaper to operate and will go about anywhere that a UTV will go. Where I live it is fashionable for out of area hunters to haul them around on a trailer behind a 4 wheel drive truck, unload them and ride a half mile to a deer stand. But if your wife likes one go for it! I'm trying to talk my wife into buying a new John Deere tractor.

Consider the Bad Boy all electric UTV. My buddies from Waco came down to hunt geese for a couple of days with two different outfitters here in the Garwood and El Campo area. Bryan is an Arctic Cat dealer in Waco and also sells Bad Boy. He brought a 4 seater demo for transport to the field, all 4x4, all electric 72 volt. The thing will run 40 miles per charge. We got that thing in some unbelievable muck and it wouldn't stick. At one point the 3 passengers had to get out and push to get it off high center, but then off we went. :D

I'd love to have one just to get around with passengers here on my property and down the private road we live on, but they're pretty pricey and it's not something I HAVE to have. There's no gasoline necessary, of course, but every 5 years or so it'll need $600 worth of batteries. Just turn on the ignition and press the accelerator, no start up. :D The thing is no golf cart, can haul the mail up to about 45 mph and is not only 4x4, but also offers locked differentials which can be unlocked for hard surface. Amazing vehicles.

Well... If I made a mistake, it's too late, with me writing the check today.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present my wife's birthday gift... She takes good care of me, and for her age, she's an in-shape super-babe.

This all got started because she wished for a way to get to the barn without having to trudge through the sludge, and get to the homes of friends and family who live at various distances around the the farm.

Mission likely accomplished. The dealer is going to put a glass windshield with a rear-view mirror in, and a factory-heater before delivering it. :D

I think the kids will like it too.

Thank you all for your help. :)

At 58 I wanted something to make hunting easier. I ended up with a Honda Pioneer 500. They won't seat 4, but they are the same width as the bigger ATV's. This makes getting around the logging roads and tight places a snap. At 58 the roll bar is a big plus. ATV's are for the younger set that still bounce on a fall :D

At 58, I was still road racing and flat tracking motorcycles. I used a dirt bike up until this year to tend things on my place, only recently got an ATV! I turned 64 this year. I plan to ride motorcycles until I die, dirt and street. :D

I don't need no stinkin' UTV. :D

I'm 58 right now. I ran motocross as a teen, but was only really competitive in deep mud. For some reason I was good at it.

Flat Tracking at 58 reveals a fellow very much in shape. I'm honestly impressed. Kudos sir !

Well, at age 47, I decided to go back and road race again, built a Mad Dawg class flat tracker a few years later. I'd quit at age 33. I dropped 50 lbs by diet and working out just to get back into my old leathers. I quit a few years back, no more health insurance and, well, it's expensive. I'm no longer what I'd call in shape. LOL!

The ATV is the tool I needed, though, I have to admit. My KLR650 is a lunk of steel, but it does have a nice luggage rack for hauling corn. The ATV's in nicer, though. The woods out here are pretty dense. When my buds were here from Waco, we took the Bad Boy UTV out back to show them the place. We could barely squeeze between the trees in a couple of places. I'd have to cut down a couple of trees if I routinely used a Mule. :D I do a lot of hunting, too, and prefer to load the ATV in the back of the truck rather than on a trailer.

BUT, everyone has different uses. What you got should serve you very well. I have been impressed by my Kawasaki motorcycles, verr well built and engineered and, after all, the Mule started the UTV thing. :D
