Has anybody on this forum used them for shooting? If so would you recommend them? My old steel targets are getting pretty well shot up, and I am about to order some new ones, and a couple of there hangers also. What is the general consensus on these, first are they worth it, or does anyone here have other recommendations?

I have a couple of the JC Steel targets and they have held up just like other brands of AR 500. It's a good cause too.

Thanks for the input, think I'll get a couple targets and hangers from them, there shipping is $19.99 no matter how big the order is, so that in itself is a bargain.

Thanks 1KPerDay for the info, I've got right at 20-25 R500 plates right now in every thing from shooting trees, poppers small and large, and including a lot of round plates everything from 6" to 10". I don't remember where I bought them, but over the years they've been pretty well bent up. In fact the last couple I had, I got out at Arizona Steel in Bullhead City AZ, and had a good buddy with a laser cutting torch shape it into a popper, unfortunately I don't think AZ Steel has any more R500 steel, and my buddy moved quite a ways from where I live. I am looking forward to getting my new targets.

Shootsteel.com is good. I have gotten some targets and a stand there. They are holding up really well (mostly 9mm-357). Hickock45 recommended Arntz steel targets on one of his videos. They seem solid as well

I did get my targets in a timely matter, however the target holder that uses the rebar is kind of flimsy, as I only used 4' lengths of 1/2" rebar (6 pieces of rebar, 4 for the legs and two for the crossbar) The steel plates seem pretty good though, reckon time will tell, also the T-Post (for the target holder) won't go in the ground too easy out here where we have a lot of rock, so that presents somewhat of a problem also. I probably should have just got the R500 targets and devised my own target holders. Live and learn as the saying goes.

I have a handful of plates from JC, among other brands. I would happily buy from JC, but will admit I don't tend to buy any standard shape plates from JC any more, simply because I can find better prices elsewhere. I don't pay for paint - I have to repaint every session anyway, and I tend not to be bothered by a little surface scale which other folks might cite as "lower quality plates." I've shot thousands upon thousands of rounds on "scaly plates" and haven't ever seen them give up any faster than more expensive, more refined versions. Anything AR500-550 will last as long as you don't bang them with something too fast.

JC, Champion, Shooting7, Bullseye Metals, AR500 Target Solutions, Caldwell, Birchwood Casey... I'm sure I'm forgetting some here, but if you get AR500 or 550, they're going to last.

Agreed, AR 500 is AR 500, unless Bubba cut it out with a torch.

I love the adds from some that say "Our AR 500 is better" or "Our AR 500 rings louder".

Took the 'T" Post with the 10" target out this morning with the .44SPL, and my wife's 9MM. I was able to get that thing in the ground without any problem, set back about 25yards and started shooting it, noticed no ring, however when hit the target would spin on the top of the T post, I did get my exercise though going up range and turning it for the second shot etc. My wife had a heck of a time even hitting it at that range so I moved her up to the 10 yard line, and shooting the 9mm #2 alloy with the powder coating, began making some solid hits. The target showed absolutely no wear at all and there was no splatter back. (all the lead splashed down near the base of the target, found several of the gas check .44Spcl. laying on the ground at the base of the target as well). Will have to try it at 100 yards with the .223 and will report back later with the results

Recently went with a heavy duty "T" post and noted it didn't spin anymore and held up even with the .223, .243, and the 270 as well as the 30-06. Once the weather gets cooler down here (106-116 degrees is a bit hot) I plan on ordering a few more.
