Steel targets

Hey guys,

I am interested in making some steel target, I was wondering if anyone has any information/ suggestions on the type of steel or treatments for the steel.

I will mostly be firing hand loads at the steel but from time to time I may also shoot bird shot.

AR500 steel plate, 3/8" for pistol or 1/2" for pistol/rifle. When shooting rifle rounds at them minimum shooting distance would be 100 yards.
