Has anyone put an arm brace on TC Contender before?
I was thinking if the added contact point would be useful when using the pistol. I've built a collection of 10" barrels for my contender but I don't think I want to go through the hassle of registering it into an SBR to be able to add the rifle stock. Thought it could be an ideal stand hunting pistol.

Why poke the bear if you want to do it then by all means go ahead but I doubt your helping the whole 2A community by saying hey guys can I sorta kinda maybe do this because the ATF hasn't exactly said it was wrong today........

More curious to know if the heavy recoil from the 44 and rifle calibers will be mitigated from the additional bracing point....

If it's legal we should haven't to act scared in exercising our rights. Run and hide if you want, I say try it out and see if you like it.

I see it not only helping the 2A community, but also those with the issues the thing was developed to help with in the first place. I see the TC as a more easily adaptable pistol for hunting and longer range target shooting than an AR anyway.

I think this is a great idea and am ashamed of myself for not having thought of it for my contender. However there are a few issues to deal with.
First, I am not sure that the Choate stock in the picture in your post uses tube threading that is compatible with AR pistol buffer tubes, so if you are intending to make that the base for your brace you may have to do some modifications beyond just removing the stock and installing the brace.
Second, assuming that the stock is readily convertible to a brace, you cannot even possess the stock if you only have pistol length barrels because then you are in constructive possession of an NFA item. You would need to first buy a rifle length barrel so that there is a legal configuration that includes the stock.
Lastly, I think some of the benefits of the brace system are lost on the contender because there are folding stocks available that would result in a more compact rifle configuration even given the extra barrel length than you would likely achieve by using a shorter barrel with a non-folding brace.
All that being said, I love this idea and even if I don't hear anything more about I plan to try this myself soon.

I bought a rifle length barrel in .22lr and full length stock for my Contender. Even as a true (and legal) rifle, it was amazingly light and compact.

there lies the main question that I have with this idea.....

You can always do something like the kinda gimmicky 1Shot pistol "stand" thingy. I don't think they really took off but here's some ideas of places to start to look...

Thought about this idea as well. I recall seeing a post on a Ruger forum where someone had made a brace that was hand held but contoured to match a MKII frame.

Yeah, it wouldn't be hard to make one. I thought about trying to make one for my .357 revolver, but didn't know if I needed ATF approval even though a similar design has been approved. And since I'm not a lawyer, I didn't. Better safe than sorry.

I have one on my encore. I bought the choate pistol grip and put a pistol buffer tube with my signature brace on it. I will post pictures of it as soon as I get home.

Go for it if its within the letter of the law. I have some 16 inch contender barrel and they are easy to point and awesome. That being said, a rifle barrel will set you back a lot, and the stocks for g1s are pricey. I believe this would allow you to be more cost efficient.

No poking the bear involved. The legality of wrist braces on handguns is firmly established by BATF and lots of manufacturers make them already.

I had the same thought when this idea came to me as well. 30-30 or 44 would be my intended useage.

I have thought about it because a true stock is mucho dinero. My banged up grip would be perfect to glue a dowel rod into and slide a brace over. I also have 10” barrels.

The big straight-wall cartridges are the worst on recoil in a contender. A brace might make a 44 mag, 45 colt, or 45-70 more manageable. I don’t believe though that the traditional scope mounts on a pistol barrel are located properly for a carbine/sbr/braced pistol.

So, ended up with the Shockwave Blade brace on it. With a 22 LR barrel attached and a 4x scope, it is boringly accurate.
Also added a folding buffer tube adapter, so it is very short when folded.

I've often wished for a forearm brace for my 10 inch Ruger MK2, and my 6 1/2 inch Ruger Single Six which are both pistol scoped. Maybe this wonderful trend with grow. Don.
