I was reading one of the recent threads here and there was some talk about the OAL for 9mm. It seems most folks are using 1.10 +/- for OAL in most 9mm loads. I am using MBC coated conehead bullets at an OAL of 1.145. It drops in the chamber fine, but I am wondering what are the pluses of maybe trying a shorter OAL. Does a shorter OAL possibly improve chambering? Every once in a while we get one that gets stuck and you can see a scrape right above the top edge of the shell. I have shrugged it off because so far it has only happened to my wife, so I figured she limp wristed.

Thanks

Pete

1.145 seems fine for that bullet shape. Might shorten it a little and see, say 1.135, but I see no reason to go as low as 1.100 with that bullet shape.

Is your "taper" crimp removing all of the bell on the shortest cases? You don't want more than that, but you must have it set so the shortest cases get the bell removed completely.

That is a great question. I have one of those bullets saved somewhere. I will have to take a look. I bet you are correct. Pete
