Stupid cat ate 3 off the floor before I could stop him and my vet isn't answering his emergency line... I'm sure they'll pass, but any toxins ?

Hhhmmmm, now the $10,000 ? is if recovered would they still work after being digested?
You are going to check and let us know right?:D

Small amount of lead but probably not enough to worry about.
If you shoot 50 rounds with lubed lead bullets I would imagine you would have a larger lead exposure.
Hope everything works out and the cat is ok.

told me I could bring him in in 30 minutes so I think I'll just do that. I have been trying to get ahold of hm for almost 2hrs. supposedly he should be OKAY. apparently a small dachshund did this once before. I was told the craziest thing he every pulled out of an animal was a large dishtowel.

I'd also worry about the little anvil that's in the primer. If it comes loose that could cause problems. Not saying it will just something to think about. I do hope Mr. Meow is OK.

Oooo shiny, munch......kitteh thinks this is not food...well try again...nope...one more...

Im sure hell be fine, id guess the vet will Just let them pass they are small enough...
At different times my dog ate my entire roll of solder, and a socker ball, and a balloon....only reason i know is from cleaning up after her, the socker ball hexagons came out mostly intact....now i just dont look.

Chemicals in some primers. Federal may have Nitro. https://www.federalpremium.com/downloads/msds/F4001_Small_Arms_Primers.pdf

Seeing as this was last night hopefully your cat is doing just fine. My guess is the primers will pass. Dogs and cats tend to eat all sorts of things which generally pass through. Please let us know how things went.

Most primers use lead styphnate as the active ingredient. It is lead attached to a nitrated benzene ring so there is some limited toxicity, but the quantities are so tiny it shouldn't be a problem. As others have said, if the cat can pass the cup and anvil, everything should be okay.

It sounds like your cat is active and curious. It might be a good time to introduce him/her to mice and birds.

Yes, but if you (or your cat) are looking to end it all, 8 extra-strength Tylenol will do the job quicker.

Yes, but they can still be delicious with some mixed greens and a white-wine vinaigrette.

I wouldn't worry. Primers today have very little lead, and lead poisoning takes many doses of lead/lead sulfate over a period of time. Cats are carnivores and have very acidic digestive systems and the copper and brass will probably be dissolved before it can pass through their relatively short system. I've seen cats eat copper wire (?), fish skeletons (large bonito) and chew bones that are hard as rocks, no problems...

I know a guy whose dog ate 24 shotgun primers. had to have vet remove them because they would not pass.

My father in law used to put bath towels in his dogs kennel for something to lay on and the dog would eat them end to end in a few days. He would chew them to pieces swallowing it all as he went. The yard was dotted with little piles of towel until he finally started putting hay in there instead.
