I know they made some but did they ever make a single shot bolt gun? Because I've got one. The bore measures .220 or thereabouts. It was obviously never rifled and it Isn't a bored out barrel.

The gun is an early model 60 and it is in 99+++% condition. If I had a box , I would call it new in box.

Some pics. I had forgotten the dinged butt plate screws. Gonna have to subtract a " + " or two. The wood is flawless.

back in the 60s there was a miniature skeet game that used 22LR shot loads.
IIRC, it was called "mo-skeet-o"

The reference at the top to "smoothbore" is the search term used to find info.
This doesn't mean there were none made or were made?

Sear info includes "shot"

Remington made a smooth bore .22 based on the model 514 action, it was called Routledge bore. I think the idea behind it was to call it a "snake gun" using bird shot

Wernt these called garden guns or something of the like? Intended for use on squirrels, snakes, and such with .22 shot shells?

I remember reading about them quite some time ago in an air rifle magazine i think.

Seen the Anschutz Zephyr Claybirder when the owner was looking for a magazine. One of my old books had the photo i posted above.

I wanted to shoot it with the new magazine, but no luck.

I am so sorry for the misfortune that has been bestowed upon you. Someone has taken advantage of you, selling you a rifle with no rifling in it. If it would help I would allow you to ship it to me so that your friends don't pick on you. I am so generous I would even pay for the shipping .

You should post over at Rimfire Central. There are a few Winchester Collectors over there.

I see this is the 2nd time you ask on THR.

I see a m67 in this bit of history with maybe the first Win 22 smoothbore? Link also includes some M60 info.

Well by heck I think you got it ! In deed it is maybe a first model post 1936 up to whenever they started putting a bead sight on and perhaps marking the barrel shot or something. If the barrel is indeed un molested from the factory , which I believe it is being it is a very small .220 , then in the very nice condition it is in I'd say un lettered at $300-350 . I collect garden guns and actually use them more than most any thing else around my homestead for Blue Jays, Starlings , weird creatures which shouldn't be out in the day that weigh under 5 pounds and I can get with in 15 yards or less and rats and mice snakes ........... Folks if you haven't shot a Rutledged chokes smooth bore .22 at gophers up to 50 feet or maybe slighly more with the CCI load you don't know what you are missing :) The unchoked smooth bores aren't far behind and like night and day better than any rifled bore. Well that is EXCEPT the Anschutz Zephyr . At least on mine there is aabout 11" or rifling and the remainder of the 24" barrel smooth bore 9mm diameter with the last inch and a half .020" or so tapered choke. With CCI shot caps mine reliably will take gophers and medium pest birds to 60 feet. The use of .22 shot doesn't disturb anybody and the ariel over carry danger is less than 100 yards.

Yours is indeed a Model 60 which is valued about the same or better than standard pre war model 67s , the 67s are better in some ways but the little 60s have their own charm and sell well. Yours is choice and not a very early one FWIW , they were cruder than your pretty one

i own and shoot two smooth bore remington rifles, a model 510 ROUTLEDGE BORE and a model 580 SMOOTHBORE. both of my rifles like the older crimped shot shells, the ones that have the plastic capsules do not pattern as well. the difference between shooting a .22 shot cartige out of a smooth bore and a rifled bore are like night and day. they are not long range rifles. eastbank.
