There is an early stir among leftists/gun haters over a Hollywood remake of the classic Charles Bronson 1974 movie "Death Wish", which stars Bruce Willis and is due out in November. Seems they are all aflutter over a film that shows a citizen (he is a doctor in this remake) using guns to avenge the murder of his wife and assault on his daughter.
I always liked the original and if they don't Hollywood it up too much this remake sounds promising. The novel on which the original film was based, and the Bronson film as well, did explore the changes the main character went through as he came to grips with the ugly reality of crime and the fact that personal defense is at bottom a personal responsibility. It was never the "crazed right wing vigilante" story its critics claimed.
Odd how the lefties can think junk like "Pulp Fiction" about a couple of drug-addled hit men was great cinematic art despite its overt homicidal violence while a film depicting a decent person shooting lowlife criminals was "fascist."
I very rarely patronize the movies but I will make it a point to buy a ticket to this film, if only to thumb my nose at the anti-gun crowd, which will likely be boycotting or even demonstrating against it. Always kind of liked Bruce Willis . . . now I know why.
