Browning BAR question

hey everyone i have been googling this for months seems to be the closest thing i can find, so i got my barrel cerkoted last month and the gas screw on the side (that browning says never take out) was taken out, its a safari mk2 300 win mag with the boss can some one please help me set this screw up. this was my old mans gun and try to keep it alive
 
iam pretty sure the gas piston is in the right direction theres a flat side and a side the rod fits into, the guy who did the cerakote is not a gun smith and i told him you should probably tell futures customers that, im pissed, he should have painted right over it.
 
I emailed my local gunsmith here in south Georgia. His response:

"I can help with that BAR problem....I have encountered this very problem many times....I learned the "cure" from a long time Browning gunsmith......adjustment of that screw...once close...is a 1/8" turn...sometimes less.....

Sometimes I can get one shooting with 1/2 box of shells...sometimes(hardly ever) 3 boxes......that screw should NEVER (almost) be touched."

So, if you want, you can mail or UPS/FedEx the rifle to him. Complete rifle, since he would need to shoot it to check it out. He's a superb full-service gunsmith; one of the best I've ever known.

Thanks. I'm in Canada so getting it shipped wouldn't work. Does he have a step by step?
 
Midwest gunworks sells browning BAR parts, does work, and answers questions.
They are pros.

I am an amateur and know nothing.
I have (3) BARs, 300WinMag [1980], 338WM [1969], and 338WM [1990].
I have bought gas plugs for them.
I have made gas plugs for them.
I have modified gas plugs I bought.
I have used the wrong gas plug because I am running hotter loads.

a) 7mm Mag is .066" hole
b) 300 Mag is .077" hole [p/n B3176146]
c) 338 Mag is .059" hole
d) My home made is .078" hole
e) recoil buffer [p/n B3176065]
