I got out today for a couple hours with my 4 inch 64-3. I bought this gun used a little over 3 years ago. With 158gr ammo this gun will put holes exactly where you hold the sights. The trigger is well broken in with a very smooth double action pull. Today I was shooting my reloads which consist of a 158gr Xtreme SWC over 3.5gr of Tite Group. The pictured target is 6 shots from 15 feet. I was shooting double action from a standing position with a 2 handed grip. The target is a 6 inch shoot n see and the 9 ring measures 2.5 inches across. Target picture should be rotated left 90 degrees

Nice! I have the blued version (10-6 HB) and it's a fun gun to shoot. Always thought I would pick up a 64, but just never have.

I have a 4" m64, and a 4" m10-6 , both of them police trade-in revolvers.
They both shoot very well, nice triggers too.

Funny thing, the m64 will give me 100fps more velocity over the m10, with the same ammo.

Those barrels look awfully short to me, but the groups don't appear to lie based on the first post. I love a nice smooth trigger, in some cases used is a perk!

Stainless steel is a bit slicker for bullets all else being equal.

I bought a Model 64 pencil barrel back in 1974. Wish I still owned it.
I bought an unfired pencil barrel 64 a few years ago, but didn't keep it in that condition. With the original magnas and a Tyler T-Grip it is one of those guns that just feel right. Other than the T-grip the only modification was a little nail polish on the front sight.

Pretty much the pinnacle of carry , defense and home defense revolvers. If that were the only gun one could own, one could do much worse.

I don't currently own a 4" 64. I had mine engraved and gifted it to a retiring Officer.

But....
I own a 2" 64
Two 3" 65's
A 4" 65
A 4" HB 10
And, an engraved 4" skinny barrel model 10 that my Officers gave me when I retired.

Amongst a few other K frames.

Yeah...I think very highly of the K Frame. In .22....38 and, .357.

Very nice!

Hard to go wrong with a S&W K-Frame. Were you shooting the Model 64 with the original wood stocks or the Pachmayr grips?
I had the Pachmayrs on it. The original wood stocks don't fit my hand at all.

Mine is every bit as accurate as you've all said. I had it out last week while I was letting my daughter's English friend shoot a few guns (since he's never touched anything but an airgun). It was his favorite between some 22's and a 1911, I think. I made one shot while showing them how to hold the gun and I hit the exact center of a target identical to the OP's from 10 yards. I immediately stopped and handed them the gun.:D No reason to let them think I might do anything less.

Purchased my 64 as police surplus at Southern Ohio Guns. Excellent condition and came with the Pachmayr grips. I just checked; Still available; $319 for the 4 inch model. Darn you all for enticing me to the site again, though. They've got a Star BM for $219....I've always wondered what those were like.
