I shot my CZ 452 UltraLux and American in the rimfire classes and the following two rifles in the centerfire classes:

Ithaca LSA 55 in .22-250 (manufactured by Tikka in Finland) with a Leupold M8 fixed 6 in Conetrol bases and rings and a sporterized 03-A3 (Remington) in .30-06 with its skinny front post and a nice Lyman receiver sight at the rear.

I shot these 100 yard groups with the .22-250 a year or two ago, so I carried the handholds to the match:

Here is how it played out:

Wind gusts up to 20 mph accompanied our 100 yard Big Bang Benchrest Match on Saturday morning. The crazy winds were "undopable" given my limited skill set. I just held center and pressed the trigger whenever loose-dirt quit blowing off the concrete pads. Video of wind-uh-bowin':

My targets are pictured in the order they were fired this morning.

The stalwart CZ 452 American performed as usual and kept us in the mix with the big bench rifles. All of us tend to shoot the A-23/5 sidewise as pictured below; I shoot 'em 2, 4, 3, 1. By the way, that target is scored wrong; bull #1 should be a 48-0X resulting in an overall of 192-4X.

Eley Match shot well in both my CZs this morning. The open-sighted Ultra Lux's ability to run with aperture sighted target rifles should give all the RFC CZer's a warm fuzzy. Those countless Green Monsters fired in the 50 foot match really paid off in this 100 yard. I elevated the tangent sight to the 100 meter notch and took a six o'clock hold on the TQ 4T's big bull.

The shooting that tickled me the most were those shots fired through the old Bishop stocked Remington 03-A3. The .30-06 hand load consisted of a 165 grain Hornady boat-tailed spitzer over 45 grains of IMR 3031 in twice fired Winchester cases ignited by Federal large rifle primers (RCBS dies and a 40-year-old Rockchucker press). I sighted the rifle in with this load a couple of years ago and this morning's sighter-target's three hits were two Xs and a ten; dang, if I didn't throw those sighter-targets away this morning after the match.

My most disappointing effort was with my cherished Ithaca LSA-55 .22-250 (Tikka). Excuses? Why not — I'm spoiled by constantly shooting light triggers and big-magnification scopes. The fixed 6 Leupold's center pointed reticle almost disappeared against the black bulls, I opted for "quartering the pie" in spite of the difficulty in discerning the reticle against the black bull. That 3.5 pound trigger is great for hunting but proved a handicap in this target game. Looking for a positive, my last two shots were the Xs on bull #1. Actually, I think I finally had it together with this old favorite — a little too late.

I only won one battle but won the war. Great morning with fine shooting friends. This was a great opportunity to knock the dust off a couple of my centerfires, and in the case of the .30-06, recall what recoil feels like.

Nice bit of shooting, especially with the wind gusting like that! Great job with the photos too. Your Big Bang Benchrest Event looks like it was (pardon the pun), a "blast"!

I'm sure that was a great time to cherish for long time, nothing better that shoot with friends a match.
Congrats Danny
