Im looking for a good ML bullet i can shoot with a stout charge of BH209, 50cal. I currently have 240gr xtp with green harvester sabots but thinking the 300gr might be the ticket for KE and pass thru.

What are you planning to hunt? Pass through on deer isnt too much of a challenge with a side-on or quartering away shot. Elk or moose is different game. Also keep in mind ML is limited velocity so only real way to up the game is heavier or stouter projectiles. Sticking a hard cast Keith in a sabot is going to out penetrate the xtp every time. Think handgun bullets because thats what these truly are.

Shot a whole box of .452 240xtp mags with good accuracy. Ive shot a few of the .429 240xtps, but accuracy wasnt quite as good as the .452s.

Best luck ive had were with the .452 300gr xtps.

On game performance has been solid, but nothing ive shot has been over 150lbs.

Out od curiosity i shot a group with .458 300grn nosler muzzleloader balistic tips in the black harvestors (support to use the orange .458 sabots for those). Accuracy was really good, but i had to completely clean the bore between shots or i couldnt load them. This makes me think that a tighter bore bullet fit helps on accuracy, im gonna order some orange sabots for next year and try those.

I use the pr bullets 195gr duplex dead center with 110gr bh209... @ 120gr it's going right @ 2200fps...

I like the xtp and MMP sabot myself. I use smokeless with the 45 cal 250 xtp, not the mag version. They seem to really do a good job out of my smokeless. DRT on the spot with 6 deer so far, distances between 50 and 150 yards. All were lung/heart shots.

Honestly dont think I would choose to use the 300g for deer. Something bigger, possibly. I would rather keep the velocity of the 250s.

This year I switched to the XTPs from the 250gr TC. I couldn't say on performance where things stand as I've never recovered a Thompson, only Barnes and now this, which went in the shoulder (quartering toward), hit spine (deer was coming up a draw at the very top), and was removed at the back end. That was some 4' of travel with no exit hole and about 20 yards to track on a 150ish lb whitetail. For the record, the Barnes I recovered years ago expanded hugely. Mom missed the doe that turned to look at her and hit a 70 lb fawn broadside instead. Mk 85 with 100gr of Pyrodex and the bullet was lodged under the skin on the opposite side, some 10" from where it entered, DRT.

So long as it kills the deer I could care less. I bought the XTPs because they were $10 cheaper and just as accurate at the range.

If you look closely at top center, the 4-wheeler is parked where the deer was shot.
