so, I’ve been carrying since the end of May. I own a Crossbreed Supertuck for my G26.

Also, I just ordered an OWB carry rig to see if that helps.

My back hurts! I am not the strongest guy on the block, but I’m not a wuss either.

Any advice/commiserating/admonition to suck it up is welcome...

Thanks!

Greg

I have a bad back I just cant carry a double stack pistol IWB if the OWB with a good belt does not help or if you need to
carry IWB you may want to look for a smaller pistol For me I carry a Sig p938 ether IWB or pocket in summer and
switch to a 1911 in cooler weather you just wont carry if it hurts you You need to find what works for you For me it's
a single stack good luck and Carry all the Time

The problem is your IWB carry makes your pants too tight. Loosen your belt, get slightly bigger pants or get a thinner gun.

I have a good belt.

Pants too tight may be it... hopefully the OWB will help.

Thanks guys...
Greg

A good belt or a gun belt? There is a difference - I have a thick leather belt I used as a gun belt for years, but when I went to a High Noon Rock Steady gun belt the difference was night and day. OWB does help for certain - a badly fitting IWB is double the pain.

Physical build does play a part for sure almost as much as physical condition in comfortable carry. Comfort is so important when you carry from feet on the floor in the morning until back on the bed at night,7x365. Once you find a comfortable combination you will get in the groove so to speak and it will be an easier load to bear without the growing pains encountered when starting out. Comfort did not come quickly for me either and not in the first or second year. Only by trial and error will you find the comfortable combination necessary for you as it is unique to the individual. Before I finally found comfort I had to try suspenders and I now wear them the majority of the year.
I once carried the 1911 for a personal weapon for a few years, even made expert easily with it. I've never had any desire to own one since. I didn't buy it and nothing is wrong with them for defence, they are just too uncomfortable for my use in everyday carry. I carry a backup almost daily too which adds weight as well. Good luck with finding your personal comfortable combination I hope you hit the combo sooner than I, and never give up as well.
I hope for myself and you as well all the efforts in carry are a waste of time and money.
Edit: Just thought to add most of the time I carry iwb either a SIG 220 or an XDS both in 45cal. as primary with backups dependent on dress for the day, they are more flexible and have more options.
In cool weather owb carry is easier to conceal and sometimes a double stack P89 Ruger for primary although not as comfortable. Variety helps when you carry a weapon like a Southern Baptist Preacher carries the Bible holsters do make a difference and you will have to try several unless luck is on your side. I'd rather be lucky than good anytime.

I'd bet the you are wearing your belt too tight. It's pretty common with new CCW folks. They seem to be afraid their pants are going to fall down in public. I don't know your body type, but if you are cinching the belt around a sizeable gut consider wearing suspenders and loosening up the belt.

You, also, might think about not wearing you firearm in the same position every day. Your gait may be effected by the additional weight and this could be throwing your back out of it's usual alignment. It's embarrassingly easy to spot new carriers by the way one side of the body's movements are exaggerated as they carry the weight forward as they step.

I has a spinal cord injury in my teens, have torn both rotator cuffs, have a bad back and shoulders in general. I have a Aker belt with an additional stiffener and I use suspenders. a set of Perrys. The belt along with the suspenders almost seem to float the pistol.

Edit: Forgot to add, I carry a Kahr CW45, its probably about the same size as your G26, a .45ACP loaded with 7 rounds or quality HP and an additional magazine of 8 rounds

I don't know what gear other folks are using or their body types but for my 6' 3" 230lb frame IWB is definitely more uncomfortable. I have a "proper" gun belt but the fact is that for me there's no comfort notch on a belt for IWB.

I can do it and have done it for the last year or so but I just switched to OWB and it's no question more comfortable and easier to keep the pants from sliding down.

As for back pain I haven't delt with that even when carrying a full size double stack. I could see IWB as possibly effecting that but I have no first hand experience.

Try using suspenders with a good belt. I have found it more comfortable over the years to wear suspenders with a good pistol belt since I buy the pants a size larger. The suspenders keep the pants at the appropriate length and do not have to constantly be pulling them up because the gun is too heavy. I wear a colored T-shirt that may match my shirt and tuck my T-shirt than place my 1911. I than wear my suspenders over the T-shirt and than a matching shirt untucked. Very comfortable for me.

A good leather pancake OWB style may help. The holster can spread the belt tension over a larger area. My big heavy 1076 10mm doesn't feel nearly as weighty on my belt thanks to the leather holster. OWB kydex holsters are not the same.

I have a good gun belt. I know enough for that. But appreciate that tip.

6’2” 210# used to be athletic. Now I sit, a lot.

Tonight I carried my Kimber, a heavier gun for sure, but I loosened my belt. At first it felt weird, but that may do the trick... Very much looking forward to the OWB and longer shirt.

I might try a pair of suspenders... I ALWAYS wear a white shirt under whatever outer shirt I wear, it helps with the skin contact.

Again, thanks for the tips!

Glad to hear loosening the belt helped.I most often carry OWB because it is more comfortable for me. I also almost always wear either an untucked shirt or a coat so OWB works for me.

My buddy, Steve, wore suspenders. And if he wasn't carrying two guns it's because he was carrying three.

My back always hurt after carrying form more than a couple hours. I've tried a couple of those dual-clup supertuck type holsters but none of them were comfortable (and this is a small single stack P938. I eventually picked up a N82 holster. There's only 1 clip, but I find it infinitely more comfortable and my back doesn't ever bother me. I think I was subconsciously holding my back in a different position because the grip on my gun always rubbed my love handles. The N82 holster completely covers the grip so there's no longer any rubbing.

Try a better belt first. Depending on what you want, a belt will run you much less than getting a different firearm or replacing all your pants with a few extra inches in the waist. If a better belt doesn't work, upgrade the holster next. It is easy to discount a proper gun belt when carrying a firearm. Personally I use a KORE gun belt. It eliminates the discomfort caused by having only a few holes to adjust a belt to.

I had the same issue, and as other stated after buying a better belt and a N82 holster the pain is gone.
