CZ P-02

Yep, that was a very short lived but interesting pistol, with the swappable decocker/safety parts from the P-07. How's it working for you?

Wow! Very cool! Never heard of one til today. Would make for a great stablemate for my P01.

I'd heard of it, but never seen one. I'll be interested in your impressions of it, OP.

For anybody who is unfamiliar with the P-02, it is similar to the CZ P-01 - an alloy frame, Tac rail, compact version of the CZ-75B. The P-02 is unique from the original P-01 in that it has an ambidextrous safety rather then a single decocker and it uses CZ’s simplified Omega trigger system.

These were imported in very small numbers to the US throughout the last few years, but were never (that I’m aware of) an officially cataloged CZ-USA model.

Around 2015 CZ did release a very similar model called a P-01 Omega which is essentially a P-02 with P-01 roll marks and the swappable safety/decock levers from a P-07. Those are far more common than the P-02.

It may be, hAkron, that the P-02 was the brainchild and offspring of the CZ Custom Shop, designed and produced there. (That may account for the relatively small number, and the fact that it was never cataloged.)

There is now the Omega P-01 which offers most of the same features.

CZ Customs was selling the P-02 for s while, but I’m pretty sure CZUB (the mother site in Czech Republic) did list the P-02 as a catalog SKU during the pre P-01 Omega day, so based on what I understand, it wasn’t a CZ customs exclusive or anything. Though just like all things in the world of CZ guns, you never really know for sure.

I am aware of the P-01 Omega, but it’s got the ugly P-07 style decocker and safety, and doesn’t really carry the same ‘odd factor’ of the P-02.

That's certainly possible, even likely now that I think about it.

CZUB has, over the years, created a number of seemingly "one-of-a-kind" or ("a few of a kind" guns over the years (done in small numbers), including an alloy Compact (safety rather than decocker), a bunch of semi-compacts (full size frames and shorter slides and, possibly, vice versa.) Think of a variant, and it's probably come out of the factory.

The Custom Shop is doing it, too, but with more esoteric things -- like a 10mm prototype, using a barrel bushing and all sorts of unique tweaks.

It was test marketed overseas, and very few made it here. Nifty semi-collectable, or just fun useful pistol. People had been asking for a safety equipped P-01/PCR, and that was the answer, use the P-07 hardware. It was supposed to get it's own, instead of the plastic stuff, but that idea never panned out with the move to the poly P-7/9/10.
I saw one, "one -of" years ago that CZ-USA had never heard of, a new in box steel frame Compact with decocker. Sold it at the gun shop I was working at...wanted it very badly...
