I recently got a Ruger 22/45 Lite, and took it to range today for the first time. The only 22 ammo I brought was some fairly old (>10 yr old) Remington 35 g JHP ammo that is "high velocity" (about 1200 fps and 131 foot pounds of energy.

I had failures to feed at least 1 time per magazine and sometimes 3 or 4 rounds per magazine. This occurred with both of the supplied magazines that came with the gun. The rounds would not feed into the chamber. It was very frustrated. Tried lubricating, and did not notice a definite improvement.

I guess I have brought some other ammo to try, but don't think there was anything wrong with what I was using.

Any ideas?

It's either a faulty gun, faulty ammo, or just not the ammo the gun wants.
Unfortunately .22s are picky like nothing else. Rugers probably the least so, among the autos, but I've found one or two loads I could barely get through the couple small test boxes.

It's most likely the ammo. I'm sure you did an inspection, de-preservative and re-lube. .22 auto pistols are notoriously finicky to begin with, and , as The_Guy said, Remington is often the culprit. The best thing to do would be pick up a 50 rd. box (or two) of the different brands you can find, and shoot them for reliability and accuracy.

Try different ammo
Make sure there is no gunk buildup

My mk pistols have eateneverything so far except remmy golden bullets.

Yeah I ageree, I have had more problems with Remington .22lr than any other ammo.

I always bring 4 or 5 boxes of different .22 ammo when I go out for the first time with ANY .22 semi auto. It is just part of the game.

Pick up the CCI mini- mags. 40grain round nose. As has been said, try different ammo. .22 autos can be picky.

Brand New guns can be gunked up from manufacturing too. I don't know the mk's, but someone will chime in with specific advice for cleaning a new one.

Don't get discouraged. Try new ammo(cci's) and let us know what happens.

Even a super-reliable model of autoloading .22 (like a Buck Mark, 10/22, or Mk series) will have issues with certain kinds of ammo. There’s not necessarily anything wrong with your gun. Try some different kinds of ammo first before you write this gun off.

I'm playing with the band that says try different ammo. Back in the 50's and 60's the Remington .22 bullet was in my opinion the cream of the crop. I don't know what happened to them but I wouldn't take Remington .22's now if you tried to give them to me.

Hopefully the ammo isn't so old that the bullets are crusty from oxidation. Autoloaders (and others) choke on oxidized lead bullets due to the bullet being as rough as sandpaper.

I have four Ruger Mk II's. They ALL hate Remington .22's. Utter crap. They shoot Federal Bulk, Automatch, CCI, and others very reliably.
