What do people think about the Ruger 22/45 LITE as a pistol for teaching kids shooting?

Right now we're shooting from bench rest. They're only 8,9 and 12 years old and I don't think they'll be able to hold a heavy pistol up for off-hand shooting, that's why the Ruger 22/45 LITE interests me.

I had kind of decided on getting the Chipmunk pistols - but those could only be used from a benchrest:

I think the Ruger 22/45 LITE is a very interesting concept and will probably pick one up for myself. But, I don't understand why it would be specifically necessary for 8,9 and 12 years olds. My daughter had no problems handling my S&W 63 at 8 years old and at 12 I had been hunting for over a year with a 12 ga Mossburg 500 pump (my first personal firearm purchase). Is today's computer generation that much less capable?
