Yes. I don’t use my AR very often and when I do it’s usually without the dot on. I don’t see how the dot not being on could affect the POA of the reticle.

Thanks for the reply. I think the VXR 4-12 x40 is a strong contender. I like that the dot doesn’t necessarily have to be switched on. I think the fire dot would be a real asset on low light shots on black hogs.

It is and also works great on zombies and chupacabra which I only encounter in low light to dark conditions.

Having shot a Leupold VX-II 3-9 x 40mm on my old M700/.270 WIN for ever... unless you need something special? Works well enough to shoot sub-MOA at 100 yards.

Put a Leupold VX-1 (the old VX-II) 2-7 x 33mm on the 77/357 and am very happy with that as well.

Got a coupla inexpensive Mossberg Patriots for the boys last Christmas, that came w/ Vortex Cross-fire-II 3-9's on them, and they are also very nice.

Stingy Scottish fingers...

I have an older VXIII 3.5 - 10 x on a 7mm/08 it’s my favorite scope, and it’s in my budget range. I’m also considering the VX3i in 4.5 - 14. I appreciate all replies. Some of these brands I’ve never heard of. I intend to research all suggestions. Thanks again!
I have the Leupold VX III 3.5-10X and the Leupold VX 3i 3.5-10X. Both fine scopes. Also have a Leupold VX III 4.5-14X AO. I have other Leupolds and Bushnells on other rifles. So, with all that said, I started a search for a new scope for a new .270. I had set aside $500-$600 for a scope and ended up spending far less, well under $300. I selected a Burris FullField II 4.5-14X 42mm and could not be happier. It has become one of my favorite scopes. The optics are crystal clear and it is rock solid on the .270, which has a memorable recoil. Good luck in your search.

That’s the exact scope I had on my ..358 for deer and bear. You are right about the black cross hair on a black target. Also, the clarity was exceptional

I sold the .358 and the scope went with it. Replaced it with a VX-6 with Firedot

I checked the Leupold against the equivalent Zeiss and Vortex. Leupold is clearer. The counter guy at Cabelas usually works archery and said that he knows very little about scopes. The difference was easy to see for him also
