Nice gun.

Field stripping one is simple once you know the relationship of the hammer strut to the mainspring. I can take one apart and put it back together in a minute or two.

I have a bunch of MK guns. This is my oldest. A 1965 MK I Target.

Wow, perfect!
Ya, I took Dad's apart years ago- haha. I'll have to look up a YouTube video on how to do it right.

I had a Mark III Hunter for several years. I am not too proud to admit that after a few thousand rounds or so I'd drop it off at the gun shop for a $25 cleaning. Yes, that's how bad I hate taking those things apart, or rather, putting them back together. Judge me if you must, but it probably saved my sanity!

Bless the good engineers at Ruger for finally devising a simpler solution.

Great looking pistols everyone!

I had a mK III Hunter which I regret selling, it was very accurate. I will have another someday, but this time I want the standard. There’s just something about that tapered barrel I find appealing.

I agree. Maybe it's that it looks very similar to a Luger. I have a lot of handguns but my MKIII standard is my favorite. I had to ugly mine up a bit with a red dot for my failing eyesight but the tackdriving accuracy almost makes it worth it.

I have a 1972 Standard. I bought it for the same reason as wanting the first gun they made. I had to send it back to Ruger because of the ejector Rivet being loose and they replaced a bunch of stuff and sent it back for free. It runs great now and I'm happy with my plinker.

So I just snagged another Mark 1 today! A '61 long-barrel. Can't bring it home 'till Friday though......

Now this one has two unusual features- rather plain walnut checkered wood grips (still only only one medallion, no thumb rest), and a jewelled bolt. Anybody know if it could have left the factory this way or is this somebody's custom? In any case It is very well done.

Oooo! Sounds nice, pictures when you get it please.

Your absolutely right, once you understand how it works. The very first time though, can be frustrating. I had many of them come through my shop back in the day. Customer's swore there was no way to get them back together.

My only Ruger auto pistol is a 1950 (IIRC).

Found this in a pawn shop a few years back.
It was priced just under what a newer one (they had a few of those as well) was. LOL
Didn't even ask about price reduction, as one never knows that they just might realize what they've got and stop the sale.

Sorry no photos but I have a MK1 liberty model, bought in 1976, Stamped ( Made In The 200TH Year Of American Liberty ). It has a 6 7/8 ths inch heavy tapered barrel, with micro adjustable rear sight. I put on a pair of Ruger thumb rest walnut grips, bought a extra mag and its very accurate. Dozens of rabbits and squirrels will attest to that. hdbiker

I have a 1976 Liberty model with 4" barrel that belonged to my dad that I got when he passed away. About a year ago I bought a NIB made in 1981 with 6" barrel I still haven't fired. And I only paid $225 for it with the box and paperwork. If your gun uses the 9 round mags buy any you see for sale if the price is right. The new 10 shot mags will work but they are partly plastic and have a few complaints on the Ruger feedback section.

As shown in some of the pictures above, that undercut front sight on the early bull barrel Mark Targets was notorious as a "holster ripper." There was an aftermarket ramp front sight called the "Sport Site" offered in the 1970's, but that company is long out of business. If you want a ramp front sight, you can use one from the Ruger Single Six. The base needs to be ground a little to fit the barrel profile better. A Dremel with a grinding stone the same diameter as the barrel works perfectly if you are careful.
