I have a RIA Tac II in 10mm. Bought it to replace my Glock 29 when I'm in forests.

I'm quite pleased with it. After I exchanged the firing pin spring with one of standard strength, it's been 100% reliable.

This is my citadel, I've carried this nearly every day for two years. I've added night sights and G 10 grips. I functions flawlessly with Ruger critical defense ammo. It's inexpensive enough that I don't have to worry about holster wear, or bumping into things, like I would with a $1000.00+ pistol. I've shot our qualification course twice with it, couldn't be happier.

I have one in 10mm and it had to be sent back to the factory twice. Fail to feed was the problem. I received it back and it did the same thing. I called them back and was promised a "Senior " gunsmith would look at it this time. I received it back with a new barrel and slide and it has been ok now. I know you get what you pay for and I was not expecting a Dan Wesson grade gun but the damn thing should feed factory ammo. I would not trust my life with this gun.

I just bought a new american tactical (same people) 1911 commander and after less than 200 rounds the hammer wont fall past half cock 19 out of 20 trigger pulls... So I'd agree. Gun is less than five days old.

I bought a Rock Island Armory 1911 Tactical II Mid-Size (4") in .40 S&W about 3-1/2 years ago. It was a problem child almost right out of the box. Every once in a while shooting, it would try (and fail) to drop the mag causing rounds to misfeed and the mag to jam in the mag well. When this happened, it was almost impossible to drop the magazine and clear the firearm. I tried several different brands of ammo and mags but to no avail. As such, it got relegated to the bottom of my list. I finally took to my gunsmith. He repaired the mag release catch, polished the feed ramp and made me swear to get rid of my existing mags and replace them with Wilson Combat 47FX mags (done). Since then, the pistol has performed without problems and I'm beginning to build back some confidence in this firearm.

FWIW, the pistol was originally equipped with VZ grips - nice looking but tough on my hands. I've replaced them with something more comfortable.

I recently bought an Armscor / Rock Island Armory M1911A1-FS #51421 GI Government 5" model and could not be happier with it. A bit of paint on the miniscule front sight, a new pair of black checkered rubber grips, and the bullets basically go where I tell them to. I anticipate no other upgrades or changes. Beauty, on this $400 pistol, is in the eye of the beholder.

Here it is, now that I made it a $412 pistol - I have a range date with it tomorrow on my Thursday 'day off'. I may even clean it after I get home ...
