I am going to sell my Chrter Arms Pitbull 9mm revolver, I bought this new gun 2 years ago and I totally paid more than $450.00 , but now I just called two gun dealers to ask for consignment , they all refused to accept it. I think maybe this gun is difficult to get good support right now? I just want to know how much I can ask is fair by private sale or go through a FFL dealer. There was one dealer offered me only $150, ( about 30% of I paid), what do you think this price? I saw the price in gunbroker is still around $430.00, but I don't think these guns can be sold at this price.

Thanks,

You are in the same pickle that most of us get in to. A dealer or pawn shop won't pay much for a used gun. They have to make a profit and, remember that they would rather move their inventory than help you out.

And you bought your gun when all prices were high and now they are lower.

Gunbroker sellers don't always get their asking price. Look for sold guns there for comparison. You are better off with a personal sale. You could walk around a gun show with it and might get a bite. Shipping through your LGS might cost you around $50. Good luck.

True. Same goes for any company (no matter if firearms or not) that buys used and expects to turn it around for profit. Gotta pay rent, power, employees, etc. etc.

You are better off with a personal sale.

Definitely the way to go if you have the time to do it.

Do you mean I can look some sold guns with price in Gunbroker? if yes, please tell me how can I do that. Thanks.

They were scarce at first but I really wanted one and I paid $459.00 plus S&H for mine.

Now you can get them new for $400.00 if you wait for a sale.

I have not priced these, but with this being the case I think you could expect to get $300-$325 for your gun, assuming it is in nearly new condition.

Thanks,

I think that's about right for that particular situation. You can expect about half of what they will sell it for. He would pay you $150, put $325 on it and take the first $300 that was offered.
That's not a knock on the shop. He's in business to make a profit.

As has been said, private sales are the way to go. I really don't think you'd have a problem getting 3 bills for it.

You can use "advanced search" on Gunbroker to look at finished sales. Make sure that there were actually some bids on it. Zero (or sometimes one) bid/s means that no one bid on it. I use this feature a LOT when I'm trying to determine actual values. I pay more attention to the sales with lower prices. With that many people looking at the site every day, there will always be idiots who will pay way more than it's worth, so the higher-priced sales don't really mean much.

And I figure it the same way that Paul does: a gun store or pawn shop will give me about half of what they think they can sell it for.

Tallball,
I am sorry I have another small question maybe you knew.
If I post my gun go through gunbroker, How can the buyer send money order or certified check to me if I don’t want he knows my address? Can he just mail to me county post office let the office call me to pick up? I bought a gun through gunbroker several years ago from a gun dealer , the address is not a problem to them.

Thanks.

I will go to a Vriginia qun show and walk around to ask , the bottom line is not less than $300, the dealer can sell it arount $380.00 , I will try online late. but don't expet to sell greater than $380.00 , that is $80 different but should spend time.

Since you are located in Maryland are there any restrictions on private sales of handguns? Permits, background checks, must go thru FFL dealer or whatever? Maybe try another couple of gun shops to put it on consignment. Unless your "must sell" price is so high that they can't tack on what they want for their profit it seems some shop would put it under glass for a while to see anyone bites.
